Lara sometimes gets the opportunity to drive either a jeep or a motorcycle.

Both vehicles are able to drive up slopes Lara can’t climb herself. And if you work up enough speed and the sloping is right you are also able to jump over some gaps. But if the vehicles come into contact with water they both explode no matter how low the water may be (that is about to change with the new game patches). And they can only pass knee-high ledges. Any ledges higher than that effectively block their path.

All Lara can do during a ride is to steer. She can’t do any of the other things she’d normally be able to do: draw her guns, light flares or look around. To do these things you have to get off the vehicle.

But when driving Lara can run over and thus kill many of her enemies. In return a rough ride is able to hurt Lara so don’t hit too many walls. And long falls are still deadly.

The jeep and the motorcycle are controlled slightly differently.

The jeep:

To use the jeep you must have the ignition keys in your inventory. Place Lara next to one of the doors and press action. Just as if it were an object to be inserted somewhere the inventory opens presenting the ignition keys. You press action again and Lara climbs into the jeep and is ready to drive. The ignition keys stay in the inventory so you can leave and re-enter the jeep as many times as you please.

- To use the speeder you press action (the longer you press it the faster you go) and use left and right to steer.

- To brake you press jump.

- To drive backwards Lara must change gear. You do that by pressing dash. Lara turns around and only drives backwards when you press action. Left and right are still the steering keys but inverted as your direction of motion has changed.

To change back to the forward gear press walk. Lara turns around again and action, left and right resume their original driving function. But you must hold still to change gear.

- For Lara to climb out of the jeep you press jump and left. She is only able to leave it through the left door.

Driving backwards in the jeep

The motorcycle:

This vehicle needs no item to be accessed. Just place Lara next to it from the side not blocked by the sidecar (to the right of the motorcycle) and press action to make her mount it.

But to make larger jumps with it you need the nitrous oxide feeder to get the extra boost and you have to select it manually. Place Lara next to the motorcycle as if she is about to mount it. Then press inventory and rotate the menu until you find the nitrous oxide feeder and press action. Lara kneels down next to the motorcycle and inserts it. You only have to use do this once. Even though the nitrous oxide feeder is still shown in the inventory it’s now considered a part of the motorcycle.

To use the extra boost press and hold dash while you drive. It works just like when Lara is dashing: a green bar with the remaining energy appears in the right side of the screen. When it’s depleted the motorcycle will slow down to its usual speed until sufficient boost energy is replenished.

- To use the speeder you press action (the longer you press it the faster you go) and use left and right to steer.

- To brake you press jump.

- The motorcycle isn’t able to drive backwards. But if you press down Lara will push it a bit backwards with her feet. She is only do this on almost flat ground and it’s time consuming so be careful of corners and narrow passages where the motorcycle might be stuck.

- For Lara to dismount the motorcycle you press jump and right. She is only able to dismount to the right because of the sidecar.
