WRATH OF THOR is the long
awaited sequel to THE TEMPLE OF THOR.
Introduction:
This fantastic game opens with a
stunning title flyby, to the accompaniment of the TRl
theme, which will lead you through this amazing
adventure and give you a taste of what lies ahead. Pay
special attention to the flyby as it will show you two
different routes in the Roman Baths, and in order to
access the Bonus level, you will need to play both
routes. Architecturally beautiful throughout, with
fabulous gameplay, sumptuous settings, great music and a
few surprises, raiders will not be disappointed by the
latest offering from Sue (Isis). This is a MUST PLAY
adventure.
NOTE: YOU WILL NEED THREE SKULL
KEYS TO EXIT THE ROMAN BATHS LEVEL AND GO STRAIGHT TO
THE ‘LAP OF THE GODS’, BUT IF YOU ALSO WANT TO PLAY THE
BONUS LEVEL, YOU’LL NEED FOUR SKULL KEYS.
LEVEL ONE - THE WRATH OF THOR
The level starts in a small room
with a closed door on the west wall, beneath which is a
green patterned step.
Run forward to the pedestal and
face north. When you pick up the armour, the gate ahead
will open, the earthquake will start, and those raiders
with a nervous disposition should take tranquilizers
NOW. Pick up the left gauntlet and immediately standing
jump over the pedestal with a slight turn to the left
and into the new entrance. Keep to the right wall being
careful to miss that green step in front of the opening,
and the blue electric rays which beam down on the step
which is now deadly.
At the end of this passageway, a
boulder will fall as you approach, so as soon as you are
in the passage, sprint down the corridor hugging the
right wall, then sharp turn to your right and get past
the boulder before it drops.
Pull up on the block at the end,
then turn to face the ravine (north) climb into the
first alcove on your left (west) and pick up a medipack,
then return to the floor of the ravine and get ready for
the gauntlet ahead. (It’s a very good idea to save your
game here.)
Ahead of you to the left is a
slope, yep a boulder (one of many) is coming your way,
ahead and in front is a deep pit, so you need to skirt
the pit on the left hand side, whilst avoiding the
boulders which will fall. Use the binoculars to see the
route you need to take. As if that wasn’t enough , a
Giant Gladiator Wraith will appear, and this guy means
business, so in addition to eluding him and the
boulders, you need to reach water, and fast. Time to
move. (It is possible here to climb onto the rocks on
your right to find the first secret, but you have to be
very quick before the Giant Gladiator Wraith catches
you, I found it easier to return here after the Wraith
was destroyed)
Sprint forward and to the left
round the side of the pit avoiding the boulders, then
forward east. Ahead you need to evade four more boulders
and another pit, but this time you can’t run round the
pit, you need to jump at the edge of the pit from the
left side. So speed dash past the four boulders keeping
to your left, keep running and jump over to the flat
ledge on the left.
Turn back to where the boulders
have just dropped, and jump back over them to the
opening on the east wall. Go forward and climb up then
follow the path until you can drop down, turn to your
left and collect grenade ammo from the small alcove on
the west wall ,(you could return here after the Wraith
has been destroyed) then climb up into the opening on
the east wall.
Continue forward then turn left
and jump into the pool at the end and wait for the
wraith to be destroyed. PHEW !!!! Search the pool for
two sets of shotgun ammo and a medipack, then climb out.
Go back through the entrance on the south wall. Follow
the path round and ignore the opening on your left for
the moment, run forward and pick up Grenade Gun ammo
from the far wall if you haven’t already done so. Now
return to the opening on the south wall and climb up.
From the entrance, turn to face
south and make your way south back to the edge of the
pit, walk down the slope, then turn to face southwest,
and angle a diagonal running jump back to the flat
ground west. Carefully walk past the four boulders, then
turn to face south when you reach the edge of the pit.
From the left hand side, do a running jump to clear the
pit. Still keeping left, and with the dark brown rock on
your left side, turn to face north and pull up onto the
flat rock, then climb up again, and finally pull up on
the white rock and collect SECRET - # 1 - GRENADE GUN,
shells, and flares. It may seem a long way back for a
secret, but trust me, you’ll be very grateful for the
grenade gun later.
Drop back to the ground, and
return back the way you came, over the pit (north). Now
turn right (east), go past the boulders to the edge of
the next pit and face northeast. A diagonal running jump
from the far left will take you across the pit to the
other side. Walk forward until you reach the next pit
where the boulders have settled and from the far left
side, standing jump onto them, followed by a running
jump over to the other side (north). Climb up the brown
rock, then turn right and follow the rocks as far as you
can go. At the top, you can see a skeleton on a ledge
just below you, so jump down to that ledge and pick up
the SHOTGUN , continue down this ledge south and collect
shotgun ammo, now turn to face north.
Ahead you can see an opening in
the centre of the rocks, that’s where you’re going next.
Return back to the skeleton ledge and standing jump from
the edge to the slanted white jutting out rock ahead.
Turn to the entrance north, and do a diagonal running
jump with slight turn to the right to land in it.
Arm yourself with the shotgun
before you proceed further. As you approach Thor’s
Temple at the end of the ravine, danger music will alert
you to the presence of skeletons who rise up from the
rocks, use the shotgun to blast them over the edge (you
could use the grenade gun but you have limited ammo).
Once they have been disposed of, continue down the rocky
path towards the temple. At the entrance jump up to the
block near the pillar on your left and collect shotgun
ammo, then go inside.
Up the steps to your right is a
closed gate which needs to be opened. Turn to your left
and climb up the block by the side of the pillar
(south), pull up on the next one and jump to the third.
In the alcove, jump up with grab to the higher floor.
Shoot the vase and pick up flares, then pull the switch
to open that gate.
Return to the entrance area near
the gate where another skeleton is lurking. Lure him
right to the edge of the ravine at the temple entrance
then blast him over the edge with the shotgun. Now run
through the open gate. As you enter the temple, there is
a large vase to your right, shoot it if you want but
there’s nothing in it. Make sure you have full health as
you continue up the stairs to the imposing Gladiator
statue. Two Sword Wraiths are there, so move very
quickly to the entrance on the north wall by the statue.
Run to the end of the passage,
and turn to face east. Yes, I know the gate is closed,
but don’t panic, have a bit of faith, take a running
jump with grab across the spike pit, and the gate will
open as you pull up. Inside to your left is the bird
statue, so crouch infront of it until the Sword Wraiths
have exploded. Turn to face the barred area with the
pedestal behind it east. Below is a lava pit with a
flame emitter coming from the right, ahead is a ladder,
and beneath you another ladder.
Turn round to face west, drop
grab the ladder, and start to climb down. Climb down
three times, then wait for the flames to die down, and
immediately climb down four more times, backflip with
twist and grab to the ladder on the other side and pull
up. Pick up the medipack, then go forward to the
pedestal and collect the GLADIATOR KEY.
Back to the ladder. Climb down
nine times, wait for the flame to go out, then backflip
with twist and grab to the opposite ladder (you’ll be
just under the flame when you land) when the flame goes
out, quickly climb up the ladder and pull up at the top.
Go to the west opening and running jump with grab to get
back to the other side. Shoot the vase, collect the
medipack from the alcove and go to the receptacle on the
east wall by the second opening and place the
Gladiator’s Key.
You’ll get a camera shot of the
opening to your right filling with water. Jump in, swim
down to the bottom and turn west to the underwater
switch on your left. This will raise the gate on the
other side of the water channel. Surface east and pull
up into a room with a central block. Climb up the block
(north side) and pick up the GATE KEY.
Now drop off the block and go
round the back of it. There is a trapdoor there, so
stand at the edge, and press action to lift it. Drop
through it and collect the TRIDENT. Go back to the
trapdoor and jump up with grab back to the floor above,
and return via the water to the corridor.
Two Horsemen Skeletons are
waiting, I used the shotgun to kill them ( but you could
use pistols) Return to the room with the statue, and the
large black gate on the south wall. Use the Gate Key to
open it. Go through the passageway to a new room with a
central fountain. There are closed doors either side of
it to the back. Immediately run to the left and to the
switch on the north wall and pull it, this switch opens
both doors, but the door to your left isn’t timed, so do
that one first.
Go up the steps to the top, then
turn to face east and jump over to the new passageway,
then follow it round to the water, but don’t jump in
yet. Turn around, face south and look up to the ladder.
Walk back up to just before the step, and from the
centre jump up with grab to catch it. Climb up, shimmy
right and drop off. You’ve just found SECRET # 2 – ammo.
Return the way you came, but
this time drop in the water, and quickly swim up, climb
out and kill the two crocodiles. Jump back in the water
and collect ammo and a small medipack. Now go round the
other side of the room and stand in front of the
sarcophagus. Press action and receive a medipack. Back
to the switch now on the north wall round the corner.
Pull the switch, (this is timed)
turn to your right and sprint back to the other side of
the room past the sarcophagus and through the gate on
the west wall. Climb up the centre of the block to the
left of the door, sideflip to your right to the next
block, roll and running jump with grab to the block
ahead and pull up, now turn around to face east, and
running jump with grab to the next higher ledge. Pick up
TRIDENT #2. As you do, the Giant Gladiator Wraith will
appear, so quickly make your way back down the blocks,
over the different coloured tile in the corner opposite
the exit door (which will only open the door once the
Trident has been picked up) - out of the door, run down
the room and turn right to jump in the water to destroy
him.
Back now to the first room with
the statue ( as you leave this room there is a large
vase on a block to your right, but there’s nothing in it
) Place the tridents on the statues either side of the
closed gate on the west wall. The gate on the south wall
will lift. Run up the slope to ledges high above the
statue room. To your right is a closed door, to your
left, another statue, and behind it a coloured floor
tile. Push the statue onto the tile and the gate on the
east wall will rise, giving you access to TRIDENT #3.
As you pick it up, the door
behind the Statue on the lower level will open. Before
leaving this room, pick up shells from the block to the
right of the door. Return back down the slope south to
the floor below, and run to the opened door behind the
statue (west) Go behind the central block to the closed
gate and SAVE YOUR GAME.
Press action to open the gate,
and you’ll start sliding down the slope, immediately
jump and hit the roll button and get ready to grab the
edge of the slope. Below you are two openings. Drop and
immediately grab to the first opening, then drop again
and immediately grab again and pull up into the opening.
Crawl until you can pull up and
enter a room with an opening on the far wall, guarded by
two breathing Gladiators and a swinging blade. Shoot the
pot to your left and pick up flares, then start to walk
forward, and a camera will pan the area ahead. Watch the
flyby carefully to pick out the location of the pot.
Beyond the Gladiators is a slope, above the slope is a
pot in an alcove. A swing blade is at the end of the
ramp, and beyond that is a jumpswitch. You need to shoot
the pot as you slide down the slope to access a secret.
First though walk to the edge just before the swinging
axe and between the two Gladiators. (Don’t you just love
the way they breathe?) Top up your health and SAVE YOUR
GAME.
Now just for the fun of it,
reload and watch the Gladiators swing into action.
Right, now for the challenge ahead. Wait till the axe
swings past then slide down the slope infront, and jump
at the end to the slope ahead. Immediately draw your
weapons, (I used pistols) jump and shoot the pot,
re-holster the guns, slide past the next swinging axe
and at the very edge of the slope, jump with grab to the
jumpswitch ahead, and pull it to open the barrier at the
swinging axe ledge. Slide backwards down the slope, and
grab it at the end.( If you miss it first time, its not
such a hardship, you can see the gladiators again.)
At the edge pull up (I saved on
the pull up) and just when you thought it couldn’t get
any worse, the Giant Gladiator Wraith appears. Backflip
onto the ledge behind, and to a pathway with two
swinging axes. Quickly make your way through them, you
need to destroy that wraith before he destroys you. At
the end of the gauntlet, turn left run up the slope,
jumping over the spike pit, and turn right to the far
end of the room (east) past the gladiator statue. There
is a trapdoor here, press action to lift it and drop
down into the water below and destroy the wraith.
Catch your breath, then dive
down, turn left to a metal gate, and press action to
open it. Find the underwater switch high on the far
north wall and pull it. This will open the gate in the
area where you just opened the trapdoor. If you have
sufficient air, pick up the shells, (in the same room as
the underwater switch) if not surface for air, then dive
down again. Climb out of the water.
Before going through the new
area, return to the entrance and go back over the spike
pit to the pathway with the swinging axes. Go past the
first one and turn to face the alcove (south) Make sure
you have full health, and from the edge, standing jump
down to it. Turn west and pull up, then turn to your
left and drop down to the statue. Press action to place
the Trident and to open the area beyond the trapdoor
with the water.
Now climb back up and drop off
to the right alcove below. Walk to the edge, standing
jump with grab to the ladder and climb down to the
bottom. Kill the crocodile, then go through the opening
on the right. Pick up shells and flares from the left
side of the corridor, and ammo again from the other end.
On your way back, look up to an alcove high up in the
central dividing wall (south) and climb up into it to
pick up two medipacks. Turn around, safety drop to the
ground and head back for the ladder.
Climb up as far right as you can
until you reach the swinging axe platform, then shimmy
right and pull up. Turn right and re-enter the
passageway, jumping over the spike pit to the main room.
Go through the opening where the gate has lifted and run
forward to the room with hanging skeletons, and a
pedestal at the far end of the room. Pick up the GATE
KEY.
The hanging skeletons will drop
from the wall and rise up, and I used one of the
precious grenade gun shells to take them both out with
one shell. Now take the opening to the east and pick up
the medipack from the first alcove, and ammo from the
second. Turn to face west, run past the gate where you
entered this area and forward to pick up the flares,
killing the crocodile en route. (there’s nothing in the
crocodile pool) Now leave through the opened gate and
turn left, and through the opening the other side of the
water.
As you stand at the entrance on
the green floor tile, the gate at the far end of the
room will rise, but this is a trigger tile, and as soon
as you step off it, the gate will start to close. It is
just possible to get through the gate before it closes,
but it is an extremely tight, almost impossible timed
run. However, if you look to your left, there is a
statue on a pedestal to your left (north wall). Go
forward and pull/push it onto the green trigger tile,
and the gate at the far end of the room will stay open.
Before going through the new entrance, shoot the pot on
your right and collect a medipack.
Now you can go through the open
gate to a room with a breathing Gladiator statue on a
ledge, a closed door on your right and a switch to your
left, ( if you managed to get through the gate before it
closed without moving the statue, the gate will drop
behind you and the switch is there to raise the gate in
case you need to go back to get the Gate Key). Go to the
black gate and use the Gate Key to open it.
Inside is what appears to be a
nightmare scenario, with flames coming not only from the
lava, but also from flame emitters over a small lava
pool, added to which you need to negotiate the swinging
axe, but its not as bad as it seems Walk forward to the
edge and standing jump over to the south ledge. Now turn
to face southeast. You need to time a standing jump to
the grey ledge ahead and at the same time avoid the
swinging axe and the flames from both the lava and the
wall.
When you are on the grey ledge
wait until the axe passes, then run forward and angle a
diagonal standing jump to the ledge with the switch.
Pulling the switch will raise a gate high above you to
the right, and guess what…. it’s timed. So pull the
switch turn immediately to your left and pull up on the
slope (north), backflip to the slope and immediately
jump with grab to the next. Now turn to face the opening
southeast and do a diagonal running jump with a slight
turn to the right to land in the entrance before the
gate closes.
Walk forward into the new room
where there are tall columns, an exit at the far end
protected by a swinging axe, and to your right, the
rumbling you can hear is the sound of a boulder rolling
backwards and forwards along a slope. (It can’t harm
you, it’s just there to intimidate you with the rumbling
noise) Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, those first two
tall columns really are moving.
Once you start your run, you
can’t stop it has to be continuous. Walk forward to the
edge (left) and line up a diagonal running jump to the
bottom left corner of the column when it is in front of
you, now hop back and SAVE YOUR GAME, and make sure you
have full health. Note where the second column is when
the first is nearest to you.
Wait till the first column goes
back and count roughly to 2, then while the column is
still back, take a running diagonal jump to land on the
column which will have moved forward by the time you
land, still running turn slightly to the right and jump
to land on the second column. As you land the block will
move in front of the doorway, standing jump immediately
to it, followed immediately by another standing jump
through the doorway past the axe. It took me several
attempts to do it, but it can be done quite easily once
you get the first jump from the edge timed properly.
Enter the new underground cave
with the central pool. From the doorway run forward to
the front left corner of the small pool and turn to
face, northeast, then run forward and turn left into the
alcove. Stand at the top right hand corner of the small
slope and pull up into the opening above. Turn right and
jump down into the room below. Go to the far end of the
room and climb up on the altar to pick up the white
SKULL KEY.
There is a sarcophagus nearby,
press action to open it and collect a large medipack,
and hastily leave the room the way you came in before
the awakened skeleton can harm you. As you drop back
into the main area, two crocodiles will attack, so
dispose of them, and walk forward south towards the
barred gate at the bottom of the slope. Just before you
reach the gate, jump up onto the platform on the east
wall and place the Skull Key in the receptacle to open
it.
Go through and as you progress
inside the new cave, you’ll get a flyby of a skeleton on
horseback. Wait till he approaches you up the hill,
there is a lava pit to the left of this slope and you
can easily fall in. Once he is dead, pick up the
GLADIATOR’S KEY he leaves behind. Now time to collect
that secret you worked so hard for on the slope near the
breathing Gladiators earlier in the game. Run down the
slope and over the little bridge, turn right and right
again into a room with three pedestals, and pick SECRET
# 3 – REVOLVER , flares and ammo.
Leave this room now and turn
left, run up the slope to the closed gate on the north
wall. Use the Gladiator Key to open the gate to your
right. Go through and follow the path to the top until
you can overlook the deep lava pit beneath you. Be
careful here, you can easily slip down the rock face.
Look directly ahead to a flat piece of ground (west),
and take a running jump with a slight turn to the right
to land in the safe passageway.
Go through to the room with the
two pillars and the pedestal, and pick up the LEFT
GAUNTLET. The gate will rise. Go through it to enter the
next level.
LEVEL TWO – ROMAN BATHS
Take the first turning to your
right, run up to the first platform and turn north, pull
up and pick up the SHOTGUN. Turn around and safety drop
to the ground. Turn right and walk forward to the small
pool with the fountain and jump in. Swim round and pick
up shells, then locate the underwater door on the east
wall and press control to open it. ( position yourself
in the middle for the door to open) Swim through to the
end and then up, roll and pull the underwater switch on
the west wall.
The camera will show a gate
lifting, leading to another fountain area. Swim back and
climb out of the pool. Face the south steps and prepare
to dispose of the soldier who comes out to greet you.
Shoot the large vase and pick up flares. Now go behind
the pillar and through the gate you just opened. Watch
as the camera pans this beautiful cloistered area. There
are receptacles on both sides on the higher level, and a
block which needs to be raised by the closed gate on the
east wall.
Go forward south and down the
slope. I used the grenade gun to take out the two
skeletons who rise up at the bottom of the slope and
proceed through the west opening to another garden area.
In the centre of the garden is a rope, but you can’t
climb it, you’ll see what happens to that later. To your
right (north) is a closed door, so you need to find
something to open it. First turn to your left and go to
the side of the entrance, pick up shells, (west) then
run forward east to the area behind the entrance.
There is a closed gate to your
left, a pit infront of you and to your right a slope at
the other side of the spike pit. At the top of the slope
is a boulder. Jump over the spike pit and progress up
the slope, don’t worry the boulder wont fall yet. Notice
the spiked floor as you run to the left of the slope and
collect a medipack. As you do, flames will shoot out
either side of the spiked area.
Now go to the other side of the
slope to the switch and pull it. When you pull the
switch the gate at the other end of the room will open.
The boulder will trigger as you run infront of it, as
will the spikes near the flames. You need to outrun the
boulder, and avoid the spikes and the flames as you jump
over the first spike pit to the open door at the end.
So pull the switch, turn and
wait for the flames to die down then diagonally sprint
through the doorway, turning to your left or right to
evade the boulder, at the same time being careful not to
fall into the spike pit infront. ( Or if you’re quick
enough jump straight over the spike pit.). Once you are
on the other side of the spike pit, go straight ahead
and through the opening on the north wall and to the
ladder. Climb up to the top, and head through the west
entrance.
At the top, turn to face south
and jump across to the other side, follow the passage to
the outside. You are now on the higher ledges
overlooking the fountain. Turn left and walk to edge
(south). Infront of you under the greenery is a shimmy
ledge, jump with grab to catch it, shimmy right and pull
up. Go inside, shoot the vase and pick up the PIECE OF
WOOD. Go back to the entrance and safety drop to the
ground.
Run forward north and to the
closed door, and use the Piece of Wood to open it.
(nifty crowbar or what). You’ll hear the sound of
crocodiles as you walk into the new room, but they are
on the floor beneath. Walk slowly forward (left). You
see the trapdoor with a high crawlspace above it. SAVE
YOUR GAME
(Note: There is a very remote
possibility that your game could crash here, during
testing one of the testers experienced difficulties when
dropping through the trapdoor, it only happened once and
only to one person, but better safe than sorry).
As soon as you step on the
trapdoor it will fall and drop you into the area below
where two crocodiles are waiting, so be prepared. I used
the revolver here because you are in a confined space.
Once they are dead, turn to face
the west pit, and drop down to the lower ledge. You’ll
see a switch on the other side of the flame pit, so once
the flames die down standing jump over and save your
game. The switch is timed and will open the trapdoor
again where you entered this area. Pull the switch, take
two sidesteps to your right (whilst still facing the
switch), roll, running jump back over the pit when the
flames are down, and run forward to the sloped bit of
ground underneath the ledge, jump up with grab to catch
it. Pull up, turn to your left and jump up with grab the
ladder, climb up before the trapdoor closes.
Return to the trapdoor, turn to
face west and pull up into the crawlspace. Run up the
steps to the top, shoot the vase on the ledge to your
right and pick up shells. Walk forward to the edge and
look out over this huge colannaded area. Above you is a
monkey swing, so turn to your right, and climb up the
ledge then standing jump to the triangular block above
it. You are now beneath the monkey bars. SAVE YOUR GAME.
Top up your health, and jump up with grab to catch the
bars.
As you swing across this huge
room, the camera angle changes and you’ll be chased by
two flying sword wraiths. At the end of the monkey
swing, quickly drop off. Run quickly forward to the
first turning on the right, and from the left side take
a running jump to land on the higher triangular block.
Turn around, look up, jump up with grab to catch the
shimmy, and shimmy left until you get an overhead camera
shot of a green area, pull up before you turn the next
corner.
Run forward north and jump up
into the alcove on your right to crouch before the bird
statue and destroy the flying swords. Drop down and pick
up the medipack. Return to the shimmy crack and shimmy
all the way left to the end, then drop down onto the
block beneath. Turn to face north and drop down onto the
lower ledge. From the back of the ledge face east and
running jump over to the brightly lit area.
Still facing east return to the
left hand side of the ledge and drop and grab the ladder
and climb down to the floor. Search the floor area and
the alcoves for two medipacks (much needed after the
flying swords) and return to the ladder on the east wall
and climb up. At the top follow the path south through
the alcove and up the path. Just before the end, look up
and to your left, and pull up. Pull the switch to raise
a black metal block in the garden below to your left.
This block gives you a quick access back to the
receptacles when you have your Skeleton Keys, and save
you having to do the monkey swing and shimmy again.
Now drop back off the ledge and
back to the corridor and continue walking south to the
top until you are overlooking the garden below. To your
right is the arched bridge, do a running diagonal jump
over to it and walk forward to pull the chain.
The rope in the garden will rise
up. Go back almost to the entrance and turn to the edge
(east) and jump down to the small higher ledge below.
(ensure that you have enough health) Drop to the main
walkway and walk to the centre of the ledge and turn to
face west, you can see where the rope has lowered now,
so running jump with grab to catch it, drop down to the
bottom and swing forward once, jumping off after the
swing to clear the barred gate. You’ll pass through the
greenery and land in a new room with a ladder to your
right. Before climbing the ladder, follow the path round
to a room with a small central bath, and a shoot vase on
the side if you want (nothing inside). Take special note
of the skeleton in the water, you’ll be back here soon.
Return to the ladder and climb
up. Enter the larger Roman Bath area. There’s nothing in
the large vase near the entrance. Ahead is a fountain
area, but first go to your right and climb up on the
ledge. The vase is shootable, so pick up the medipack it
holds. Now facing south, enter the small pool room,
shoot the vase on the left if you wish, but it’s empty.
Jump into the water, swim down and through the entrance
on the south wall.
At the end of the underwater
tunnel, you’ll be met by a crocodile, quickly swim up
and turn to pull the underwater switch on the north wall
just above the entrance. Roll, and immediately swim up
to the trapdoor you’ve just opened and climb out
(south). Kill the crocodile. Turn to your left and climb
up the first small ledge to your right, then turn to
climb up to the ledge with the statue and turn right.
Run forward to the south pool,
jump in the water and pick up shells from the area at
the back. Climb out and onto the fountain ledge (south).
Stand in front of the water spout in the centre of the
south wall and press action to retrieve the TRIDENT then
running jump back to the statue to place it.
The camera will pan the area
which is now filled with water, but the first bath you
saw with the skeleton is now drained, so that’s where
you’re going next. Jump back into the water and head
back down through the trapdoor (south), roll and quickly
swim north to evade another crocodile in the water.
Climb out, then turn back and shoot the crocodile which
will have followed you. Back over the ledge (north) and
turn right into the entrance (east). Climb down the
ladder at the end and head for the room on the south
wall where the smaller bath has now emptied.
Jump down to the ledge in the
bath and drop to the floor by the skeletons shoulders,
get as close and as central to the skeleton’s shoulders
as possible, press action to pull him back, and as you
do you can see the keys he was hiding. Jump over and
collect the GATE KEY. Climb out of the pool, return to
the ladder and climb up.
Now run forward into the room
with the fountain and go through the door at the far
right of the room. Run straight down the corridor to the
magnificent steam room at the end – those steam sounds
are so realistic. Don’t even attempt to go into the
water, you’ll die, so you need to find a way to turn off
the steam to make the water safe.
Return back up the corridor and
take the first turning on your right. Once in the
corridor you’ll see an entrance to your right, and if
you take a look through the bars, you’ll see a trident
on a pedestal, but for now continue down the corridor to
the grating and the keyhole on the north wall and use
the Gate Key to open the trapdoor.
Turn to face the ladder,
standing jump with grab to catch it and climb down into
the impressive underground cog room. The atmosphere in
this room is amazing, you can almost feel the heat in
this area. Circle the giant cog wheel, and head for the
east entrance, noting the position of the receptacle to
the side of it.
At the entrance, take a good
look round this area, there is a timed run coming up in
which you’ll need to negotiate your way all round this
room in order to reach an open gate on the other side of
the slope to your right, and there’ll be flying sword
wraiths chasing you all the way. It may be a good idea
to do a trial run before pulling the switch.
Jump over to the switch on the
south wall, top up your health and SAVE YOUR GAME.
You’ll see the gate open, and the wraiths flying out of
the room which is your ultimate destination.
Here’s how to do it in time.
Pull the switch, immediately jump with twist and turn to
land on the edge of the cog wheel path, take one step
forward, then running jump over the pipe to the next cog
wheel path. Standing jump over the pipe, run forward
with a turn to the right and diagonally running jump to
the triangular northeast rock. (Don’t climb to the
higher one) Still running continue your run and
diagonally running jump to the south east ledge with the
burner. Wait for the flame to die down then jump
forward, past the axe blade and crawl underneath the
pipe. Stand up and running jump over to the entrance and
through the gate before it closes. Climb up to the bird
statue, crouch down and destroy the wraiths. Now what
was all that panic for !!!
When the wraiths are destroyed
go forward to the pedestal and pick up the GLADIATOR’S
KEY. Pull the switch next to the bird statue and exit
through the door. Face the path with the swinging axe,
running jump over to it and crawl under the steam pipe.
(Watch your health bar). Still crawling get past the
axe, then stand up and wait on the step just below the
burner. When the flame dies down do a standing diagonal
jump to the burner ledge and turn to face west.
The black grid column infront of
you is climbable. Stand by the side of the burner pipe,
and from the edge, standing jump with grab to the black
grid and climb down. Safety drop to the ground. You can
pick up flares from a block near the west wall. Now
return back to the black grid column and climb up to the
top keeping to the far right. At the top, turn to face
southwest and standing jump to the column ahead, then
turn left to face south and standing jump to the next
column. Turn to face southwest again and running jump to
the rusty ledge on the west wall, then finally turn left
and running jump to the ledge on the far wall (south)
and pick up SECRET #4 - ammo and medipack. Turn to face
west and drop down to the switch ledge below for an easy
exit from this area. This will save you returning by the
columns and exiting over the steam pipes.
If you missed the secret, return
back the way you came to the starting column, and facing
west climb down the black grille keeping as far right as
possible until you are just below the burner, wait until
the flame dies down, then backflip onto the ledge.
Now quickly sidestep as far
right as possible (till your right foot is just off the
edge). Turn to face northwest (the compass should be
just past the N direction), hop back, and take a long
running jump to the slope by the side of the tall block.
You must take off at the very last minute or you wont
make it). Now turn southwest and line up a running jump
back to the cog wheel platform, and standing jump over
the steam pipe. (south)
A running jump will take you
over the next steam pipe, then turn right and make your
way back to the west entrance. Locate the receptacle
(east) and place the Gladiator’s Key to turn off the
fire in this room and the steam in the Roman Baths. Turn
right and go back up the steps (south) to the ladder on
the right and climb up until you just pass the iron
trapdoor on your left, then backflip onto the path.
Run forward, turn second left
and re-enter the baths where the steam is now shut off.
Turn to face west and make your way over to the other
side. To your left are two swinging axes and an
intermittent flame on a ledge. Ahead is a vase on a
block. Jump up onto the block and shoot it. Drop back
and go forward to the right side of the axe ledge. Time
a running jump onto the ledge avoiding the axe, and drop
off the other side.
Proceed through to the new
opening ahead and at the top of the steps turn left, run
forward and collect the TRIDENT from the pedestal. This
in turn will raise the exit gate back to the garden.
Return to the steps at the entrance of this room. Look
ahead and to your left, there is a large metal cage on a
ledge, on the right ledge is a switch. At ground floor
level there is an entrance with a closed door at the
end. (west)
Go to the switch ledge on your
right and pull the switch to open that closed door, then
drop down and go down the small passage way (west) and
through the open door to a small room. There is a closed
gate to your left, behind which is a skull key (for
later) Ahead and on the ceiling is a trapdoor. Go
forward to the alcove with the beast head and press
action twice. The trapdoor will drop, but it’s too high
to reach, so exit the room, and on the way back notice
how Lara’s head turns to that door you’ve just opened.
Return to the switch ledge and
use the switch again to close the door. You’ll be back
here soon using that trapdoor to access a room behind
the closed door. Now go to the other ledge, and notice
that the black metal cage has disappeared. This is now a
climbable pillar, but before you climb up, arm yourself
with the shotgun and wideshot ammo to take out the
skeletons who will rise up as you climb onto the arch.
Blast them over the edge and
turn to face south. Pick up the medipack one of them
leaves behind. Although hardly visible, there is an
opening on the white archway below. Running jump over to
it, then go into the crawlspace and crawl to the end,
pulling up to your right. Jump into the opening west and
run down the slope to the open trapdoor, (there’s
nothing in that vase) and drop through. Once back in the
room, turn left and then right and go and pick up the
SKULL KEY #1.
Go back into the main part of
the room and run across the patterned tile to open the
exit door. You are now back in the MAIN room with the
pool of water, and this is where things get interesting.
NOTE FROM AUTHOR
“The pool is not quite as it
appears. If you jump in the water, you’ll see an opening
in one of the walls. However, there are actually TWO
openings in this pool which will lead you to two
different passages and take you to two different areas
(but you will only see one opening at a time) when one
passageway opens, the other one closes. This is
important to remember if you want to find all four Skull
Keys. Which passageway will be open first? It could be
either so when you find the opening, check your compass
and follow the walkthrough for whichever compass point
you have.
Both routes end in the same area
where there is a room with a moveable block (see where
**moveable block** is highlighted with asterisks below.)
Depending which route you took first, this block may
have already been pushed and may therefore be in a
slightly different place.”
REMEMBER, YOU NEED TO VISIT BOTH
UNDERWATER PASSAGES TO COLLECT THE EXTRA KEY TO GIVE YOU
ACCESS TO THE BONUS LEVEL.
SOUTH WALL PASSAGE
Swim through and climb out at
the end. There is a large vase blocking the ledge ahead,
and a skeleton to the right of the water.
Push the vase to one side to
reveal a switch which is timed. Pull the switch,
backflip into the water, roll, swim forward, down then
left and immediately up through the trapdoor before it
closes. The room has a central column, on the left side
of which is a high underwater switch, this will open a
nearby door where you can collect a secret later. Pull
it. On the east wall are two more underwater switches,
the one to the right will lower a metal cage in the lava
pool, the one on the left will open the trapdoor, pull
both in that order, right then left.
Swim back down through the
trapdoor, turn left and resurface in the room with the
large vase. Go to the right side of the switch and pull
up south. Now up the stairs and turn right at the top
through the gate you just opened. Drop down and step
forward to pick up SECRET #5 – ammo and a medipack. Pull
the switch on the east wall, and you’ll get a glimpse of
the passageway in the east wall of the pool which is now
open, and the south wall passageway is closed. Don’t
panic you’re not trapped.
Through the bars (north) you can
see another trapdoor with a nearby switch. Now return to
the edge of the lava pool (south) and you’ll be able to
see where the cage lowered, time a running jump to land
on it whilst missing the flame. Climb up to the other
side and look to your right. Climb the ladder to the top
and pull up, run up the slope and jump over the pit in
the next corridor.
At the edge of the flame pit,
jump up with grab to catch the overhead monkey bars and
swing across the pit being careful of the flames below.
( Jump up and grab, and when the first flame dies down
swing forward five times and wait until the second flame
starts to go out, then quickly swing across the rest of
the pit and drop off at the end. )
Drop down then climb down the
ladder at the end, continue down the steps to the
crawlspace on the west wall, and go through it. Now go
right and drop down again to the floor below. Go to the
alcove with the bars and pick up SKULL KEY #2. Return
back the way you came through the crawlspace and up the
steps to the ladder, then climb up to the extinguished
flame pit and return the way you came.
Standing jump over the small
pit, run down the hall and climb back down the ladder.
Turn to face east and use the piece of wood to open the
door at the far end. Run down and push the **moveable
block** on the east wall forward once and then pick up
the GATE KEY. (If you did the East Passage route first,
the block will have already been pushed and the Gate Key
already used,) now push the block forward once more,
shoot the vase then move the block to the side. Go to
the keyhole on the south wall and use the Gate Key to
open a gate above you.
Pull up (south) and go forward
to pick up the SKULL KEY #3. (If you did the East
Passage Route first, the key will have already been
picked up and you can now make your way to the Garden)
Exit through the open gate (north) Kill the skeleton and
run the length of the corridor until you reach an open
area with foliage on the floor. Drop through it down
onto a black metal block underneath, then drop down to
the floor.
Turn to face north and return to
the steam room at the end of the corridor. Go over the
water to the west entrance and go back over the platform
with the two swinging axes and the fire. Go through the
next entrance and you are back at the MAIN room with the
pool and two underwater passages.
EAST WALL PASSAGE
Swim through the opening on the
east wall and just before the closed gate at the end,
swim upwards into a room with a skeleton in the left
corner, a coloured floor tile to your left and a large
vase to your right. There is a ledge ahead of you
(south) leading to a lava pool.
Pull/push the vase onto the
coloured floor tile which will immediately awaken the
skeleton wraith, and change the lava pool into water.
The path back to the water is sealed off behind you, so
immediately run forward, pull up onto the south ledge
and run forward to jump in the pool and destroy the
skeleton wraith Pick up the GLADIATOR’S KEY from the
white block in the pool.
Climb out of the pool (north)
and turn left to another lava pool. There is a
receptacle on your right, and suspended above the pool
is a block, one side of this block is climbable, but
first jump over to the right(diagonal running jump with
a slight turn to the right) and place the Gladiator’s
Key. You’ll see a camera shot of a black metal block
lowering on the south wall of this area.
Turn to face southeast, and do a
diagonal running jump over to the other side. On the
other side, turn to look back. To your left is a ladder
and a closed trapdoor. To your right a sloped edge, and
you’ll be able to see the climbable side of the
suspended block easily now.
Let’s go for a secret first.
Face west and with your back to the black tile (your
feet should be just on the edge) and your right shoulder
touching the wall where the block lowered, walk forward
three steps, then angle yourself 45 degrees to the right
until you are facing northwest. Sideflip to the slope,
then immediately, jump with grab to the suspended block
and climb all the way to the top.
Pick up the SKULL KEY #4 from
the pedestal then turn right. Run over the trapdoor to
the switch (this is timed), but this is TR and although
this switch will open a trapdoor, it isn’t the one you
just ran over (which will open automatically).
Pull the switch, jump back and
drop through the trapdoor, (hit the look button to stop
the camera shot) then turn right and right again, back
to the lava pool where you placed the Gladiator’s Key
and diagonal running jump across the lava to the key
ledge, turn and do a diagonal running jump to the
opposite side, turn right, climb up the ladder to the
top and drop back onto the trapdoor as it closes. This
is quite a tight timed run, so your run must be
continuous.
Go forward into the room and
pick up SECRET #6 - shells and a medipack. Now go to the
switch in the north alcove and when you pull it, you’ll
get a camera shot of the underwater area again showing
that the south passage is open. Return to the ladder and
climb down. Run to the end of this path (east), turn
right and pull up. Walk forward to the black floor
grating but don’t stand on it. Those black gratings are
over lava and are collapsible.
In addition as soon as you start
your run, a boulder will start rolling down the slope on
the other side. So stand as far left as you can, hop
back and take a long running jump with grab to the other
side, but don’t pull up till the boulder has passed over
you. You need to be at the extreme left for the boulder
to miss you. Run up the slope and through the black gate
which rises as you approach. ( If you did the eastern
passage first, you must now drop down through the hole
below and pull the **moveable block** forward and to the
side to reveal the GATE KEY which you need to open the
door above.) Use the key in the lock, then climb out
Run straight across and through
the open gate (north). Kill the skeleton. Follow the
passageway until you can drop down through the greenery
to the large black metal block and drop to the ground.
If you did the East Wall Passage
first and you want to go for the Bonus level, you must
now return to the main pool room and find the new
opening – The South Wall Passage to collect the last
Skull Key) Once you’ve jumped from the metal cage to the
floor, head back to the Steam Room (north), back over
the pool and the ledge with the swinging axes and fire,
and through the opening on the south wall to the MAIN
pool room. Jump in the water and find the opening on the
South wall, and follow the directions for the South Wall
passage above. (Remember you need all four Skull Keys to
access the Bonus level.)
You should now have all four
Skull Keys if you’ve been through both underwater
passages and can proceed to place them. From the black
metal cage, drop to the floor then go through the east
entrance and continue in the same direction across the
room until you reach the steps. Turn right, climb down
the ladder at the end and return to the garden.
Run back across the courtyard
through the passageway where you first met the two
skeletons, (east) then up the steps to the garden area
with the fountain in the middle. You’ll see the metal
block which you raised earlier in the corner of this
courtyard. Climb up the block to the higher level.
Now you can place three of the
four Skull Keys in their receptacles – one on the east
wall and two on the west wall, to open the gate to the
right of the black metal block in the fountain garden
below. Use the black metal block to get back to the
ground.
Go through the new corridor and
as the gate at the end lifts standing jump over to the
new room. Two soldiers will emerge and they can easily
knock you over the side, so run to the entrance on the
right and deal with them there. When they are dead go
forward, pick up the ammo at the entrance, then move to
the statue and place the Trident. You’ll see a camera
shot of the armour on a pedestal. Go through the south
entrance to the room with the pedestal and pick up the
BODY ARMOUR.
This will open the door to the
north entrance, which is the route to ‘In the Lap of the
Gods’ level. However if you collected all four Skull
Keys, you should have one left in your inventory and can
use this in the receptacle in the corner of this room to
access the Bonus Level.
If you didn’t find all four
Skull Keys, you can either go back to get the fourth
Skull Key or proceed through the north entrance, jump in
the water, and progress to ‘In the Lap of the Gods’
level.
BONUS LEVEL – QUEST FOR THE
HELMET
After collecting the Body
Armour, roll and place the fourth Skull Key in the
receptacle on the west wall by the entrance. The gate on
the north wall will lift giving you access to the slope
leading to the Bonus level.
Slide down, and follow the path
to the edge and from the left, drop down onto the rocks
below. Ahead of you on the west rockface is a closed
gate, you’ll return here after the area has been
flooded. Again from the left, standing jump down to the
grass bank below, and turn to look out over the
impressive area below.
Standing in the water are two
buildings with submerged horse statues at the entrance
to the colannaded one on your right. The building ahead
(north) has a balconies on the higher level, and you can
just see a floor switch through the middle one. Time to
get in the water.
Facing north, hop back from the
right edge and run off it to land in the water below.
Still facing north, and with the two dark columns on
your left, swim straight ahead forward into the small
chamber at the back near the north wall, look down to
your right and swim forward to pick up the GLADIATOR’S
KEY. You’ll be back here near the end of the level for a
secret.
Roll and return out of this
chamber, and with the two dark columns which are now on
your right, swim forward south to the partly submerged
large brown rock ahead to the right of the horse statue.
Climb out onto the rock (easiest from the ledge on the
west side) and pick up a medipack. Turn to face
northwest towards the stone block ontop of the brown
pillar, and running jump over to it.
Walk forward and press control
to pull up onto the higher arched corridor. Turn to your
left and pick up grenade ammo, then turn to your right
(north) and run down the whole length of the corridor,
kill two bats en route and note the location of the bird
statue high on a block in the right hand corner. Near
the bird statue, go to the opening next to it (east) and
do a running jump with grab to the verandah with the
balconies and pull up.
Before going behind the
balconies, walk to the far end of the ledge towards the
sloping temple roof (southeast) and running jump over to
it. Search the far side for shells, flares and a
medipack. You can’t jump back to the verandah area from
here, so drop back in the water and retrace your steps
back past the brown submerged rock and the bird statue,
until you reach the balconies again.
Jump over any of the balconies
to the passageway and go forward and push the floor
switch. The camera will show a gate opening to an area
with steps and a small fountain. As soon as push the
switch, you’ll be chased by wraiths, so quickly jump
back over the nearest balcony, turn right and running
jump with grab (west) back to the bird statue. Stand at
the bottom of it, (it’s too high to climb), and wait for
the wraiths to be destroyed.
Return to the opening by the
bird statue and jump into the water below. Swim right
through the south entrance and sharp left through the
water channel north. To your right is a ledge with a
skeleton, pull up and collect shells. Drop back in the
water and head for the exit (south) turn left and swim
forward until you see the gate you just opened to your
left on the north wall, and climb up.
Run forward and up the steps to
the entrance of a new room with a large central pool. On
the far side of the pool are two large blocks either
side of a wall grille. To your right is an entrance
(northeast), so drop in the water and swim over to it
and climb out. On your right is a mirrored wall tile,
but this isn’t a mirror room as such. Go past the mirror
and to the next alcove on your right and place the
Gladiator’s Key.
The camera pans back to the
mirror. A guide dressed in a white toga emerges from
behind it with a lit torch, run past him to the right,
and watch as he comes forward to light the wall torch
and the grille on the north wall, thus lowering the
blocks either side of it. WOW. !!! You now have access
to the steps. Follow the guide to the top and watch as
he approaches the large closed metal gates on the east
wall, and uses the torch on the floor tile to open them.
Go forward into a room with a
large pool and an entrance on the far south wall which
is too high to reach at the moment. Dive into the water
and pick up the GATE KEY from the bottom of the pool.
Climb back out to find the guide still waiting for you,
but you need to find a way to get him across the pool,
so for the time being you’ll have to leave him here.
Back up the steps now and turn
left at the top. Continue left till you reach the next
opening on the east wall, and run down the corridor.
You’ll hear the cutting blade wheels before you reach
them, a good idea to save your game here. Get as near to
the cutting wheel as possible, then turn to face east,
sideflip through it. (Keep an eye on your health). Onto
the next wheel which has a fire tile on the other side.
Use the same procedure. Stand sideways as close to the
wheel as possible, turn to face east, and when the flame
dies down, sideflip TWICE through it and you’ll avoid
the flames as they re-light. On to the last one, as
before get as close to the wheel as you can, turn to
face east, but this time take one sidestep to the left,
then sideflip through and wait at the edge of the very
deep pit. Standing jump with grab to get over the pit
and pull up.
Walk forward to a small room
with a spike pit infront of a higher sloped edge, and
monkeybars overhead. I’d save your game here too, there
is a deep pit and sudden death on the other side if you
miss the monkeybars. Walk to the edge of the spike pit,
wait till the spikes are down, then standing jump with
grab from the edge and pull up onto the slope, slide for
a fraction of a second then jump up with grab to the
bars and swing across to the other side and drop off.
In the new room is a swinging
axe high on the west wall guarding a new entrance. Left
and right of you are columns, and behind these are
blocks. Go to the right and climb up onto the column
ledge and then onto the block and turn to face south.
Look up and you’ll see that the block is climbable, so
from the edge, standing jump up with grab to catch it.
Climb up and shimmy all the way
right until you can drop safely off onto the ledge. Now
turn to face the swinging axe, and arm yourself with the
shotgun before making your running jump as you’ll need
to take out the skeleton on the other side of the axe
when you land.
Once safely across, lure the
skeleton towards the axe and blast him over the edge.
Turn to face the entrance on the west wall, but don’t
enter the new room yet. If you look up into the room,
you’ll see two overhead boulders, and you need to
trigger these before you can progress further.
At the entrance to the boulder
room, turn to face the swinging axe, hop back twice, and
immediately run forward to the right and allow the
boulder to roll harmlessly by you. Re-enter the room
where the other boulder has also dropped, and from the
left side, standing jump all the way up the slope.
Go through the new room to the
entrance on the north wall and save your game again. Top
up your health. Look down into a deep pit with sloped
sides and tall columns. At the edge, slide down and then
jump with grab about a third of the way down to the next
slope, release all the buttons, and almost at the end of
this slope, jump with turn to the right, slide and grab
the edge of the far slope in the right hand corner,
climb to the ground. (Alternatively, you can slide down
the first slope backwards and grab the edge, pull up,
then jump with twist and grab and slide down the second
slope, release all buttons, and almost at the end of the
slope jump with a turn to the right to land on the far
slope, slide down, grab the edge and climb down the
ladder to the floor.) -There may be easier ways to do
this, but I didn’t find any.
Stand at the bottom of the
ladder block (east) and climb up to the top, backflip to
the slope behind, then immediately jump forward with
grab to the next ladder and climb up to the top. As you
run toward the pedestal, note the trapdoor to your
right. There’s nothing in the large vase. Go to the
pedestal and pick up OCULAR PART #1.
Now go to the trapdoor, facing
east and press action to lift it. Climb down the ladder
to the floor below. Head east out of this room and at
the entrance turn to your left and run back down the
steps (north). Over the pool and exit this area, and
back to the large water area outside.
From the left side of the
entrance jump in and swim ahead and to your left, and
look for the opening on the east wall, swim through and
to your right, then left up the steps to the top and to
the closed gate. Use the Gate Key to open it. Walk
forward into a beautiful garden, and watch the flyby as
the camera pans the area, take special note of the
higher ledges.
From the entrance to your right,
is a small enclosed garden with two horse statues and a
burnable wooden floor. Ahead is a pedestal flanked by
two columns. Across the water are entrances to both left
and right. From the left near the horse statue, go down
the steps and shoot the white pot – pick up ammo. Now go
forward to the next opening on your left. You’ll see
Lara turn her head to the hanging green vine as she
enters the room.
It appears to be an empty room
apart from a block in the top right corner, and top of
this is the TORCH. ( You’ll find two torches in this
level, but you only need one, the other is for backup).
You can’t use the torch yet, so instead climb up the
block, turn to face east, and line up (slightly left of
centre) with the hanging vine you can see infront, hop
back and running jump with grab to catch it.
Climb up the vine, and backflip
at the top to the higher level, then carefully walk
forward (be careful of the greenery on the floor or
you’ll drop back to the vine room), and standing jump
over to the entrance, drop down to the ledge below.
Across the room (east) there is a chain in the alcove.
To your right on the far wall is a pedestal, and on it a
key. Turn to face northeast and to the grassed platform
ontop of the arch.
Do a diagonal running jump to
land on it. Walk forward to the broken column and turn
to face the entrance on the north wall, and standing
jump to the grassy ledge beneath it to the right.
Another diagonal standing jump will get you into the
entrance. Go through the crawlspace and at the end push
the floor lever to lower a rope over the water outside.
Kill the bats.
Back through the crawlspace and
diagonal standing jump back to the grassy ledge beneath
the entrance then standing jump back to the arch with
the broken column. Walk to the far left of the arch and
turn to face the alcove with the chain. Your view will
be hidden by the column, but walk right to the point of
the ledge and standing jump over to the alcove and pull
the chain.
This will lower a second rope.
Before you go further turn to look at the alcove on the
west wall (left) it appears empty but you need to go
there later. For now do a diagonal running jump back to
the arch with the broken column, and line up with the
first rope.
Do a running jump with grab to
catch the rope and drop down to the bottom, now rotate
the rope to the left to line up with the second, swing
and jump with grab to catch it., now swing again and
jump off on to the ledge with the pedestal and pick up
the GLADIATOR’S KEY. The rope is too far away to reach,
so safety drop to the ground, hit roll before you land
to cushion your fall, and return to the small side room
with the block and the vine.
Running jump with grab to catch
the vine and climb up, backflipping onto the safe ledge
behind, then carefully move forward a do a diagonal
running jump back to the arch with the broken pillar and
line up with the rope again. Do a running jump with grab
to catch it, drop to the end of the rope and rotate
until you are in line with the second rope and swing to
catch it, now rotate the rope to line up with the
balcony on the west wall, swing and jump off to land
safely inside it. Shoot the vase and collect a medipack.
Go up the first step, and turn
to your left, look up to the high jumpswitch on the
south wall. Jump up with grab to pull it, and you’ll see
a door open. This door leads to a secret area near the
end of the level. Go forward to the edge of the balcony
and look down to the pool, top up your health and
standing jump over the balcony to the deepest part of
the water below.- northeast (You will lose health with
this jump)
Climb out of the pool and this
time go to the entrance to your right.(east), shoot the
bats and follow the path round and take the first
turning on your left to a room where the camera changes,
and you can look beneath the grated floor and see the
location of the second Ocular Piece. Exit the room, turn
left and run up the first flight of steps. Light a flare
to pick out the moveable block and from the east side,
push the block forward once, toward the stairs. (This
will allow the guide to move into the garden you’ve just
left).
Now continue up the steps to the
top, to the receptacle on the left wall. You can see the
guide on the other side of the pool. Place the
Gladiators Key and steps will form over the pool
allowing the guide to run across. Run past him and he’ll
follow you down to the garden area, then watch as he
lights the centre pedestal. WOW!!!!!
At last you have somewhere to
light your torch. So return to the room with the block
and the vine (west), pick up the torch and return to the
lit pedestal. Do a standing jump onto the platform left
of the pedestal, and press action to light your torch
(don’t get too close). Now you can bid a sad farewell to
the guide, he wont be helping you any more.
Go back with the torch over the
pool (south)--don’t worry, it's shallow enough to wade
through--and turn to face the room with the two horse
statues. (northeast. By the right side of the broken
column, angle a running diagonal jump over to the
entrance. Go forward into the small garden and throw the
lit torch down onto the wood. Wait for the floor to
catch light and disintegrate, then drop down onto the
white block below and turn to face north. (If for any
reason you can’t drop through the portal – exit the room
and return again.)
Run forward through the grassy
underground tunnel and turn left at the end. Climb up
into the room beneath the grated floor you saw earlier
and retrieve the OCULAR PIECE #2. Return back through
the grassy tunnel to the white block, turn to face north
and from the edge do a standing jump with grab, then
pull up back into the small garden.
You can leave this garden area
now and head back for the outside water area. (West). At
the entrance with the six large columns infront of you,
swim straight ahead across the water to the other side,
over the white block at the entrance and beneath the
overhang. Turn left (south) and swim up. Climb out onto
the slope and run up it (no boulders here, don’t worry)
Pick up the medipack en route and jump up to the ledge
on the left (There’s nothing in the large vase, so save
your ammo).
Combine the two Ocular Pieces,
and place the PORTAL GUARDIAN on its stand to open the
large gates on the south wall. Run forward and pick up
THOR’S HELMET from the pedestal. Immediately, the ground
will shake violently as the area outside becomes
flooded, and two very menacing Sea Hags will be released
into the water.
The earthquake will lessen as
you re-enter the water, so jump back in as quickly as
possible, and at the entrance, out swim the Sea Hags and
turn to your left (north), and re-enter the area where
you picked up the first Gladiator Key. Look up and
you’ll see a new opening in the ceiling, so waste no
time in swimming up and climb out into the new room.
Jump onto the blocks and pick up SECRET #7 - two sets of
ammo, flares, and a medipack.
Now stand at the edge and look
down into the water. With a bit of luck, the Sea Hags
will be lying in wait for you , so arm yourself with the
grenade gun, and use some of those precious shells to
blast the Sea Hags to smithereens from the safety of
this room. (Aren’t you glad you took the time to get the
first secret of the game!!)
Jump back in the water and head
west, swim up, and look up high for the water pouring
out of the north wall, so swim underneath it, turn to
your left and climb out behind it onto the grassy ledge
(west). Run up to the highest point of the small slope
and standing jump forward into the higher rock (south)
Walk forward and standing jump up with grab to the
overhead ledge.
Turn right (west) through the
open gate (west), and run up the steps to the next
entrance flanked by two large stone pillars. Now run
through and up the slope and take the first turning to
your left. This is the gate you raised in the garden
when you pulled the jumpswitch in the balconied alcove.
Go forward and pick up SECRET #8 - shells and a
medipack. Exit the room and turn left up the slope.
You’ll be able to hear the peeling of a distant bell.
Go forward into the next room
and shoot the vase on the right ledge and pick up the
REVOLVER. The vase on the left is empty so conserve your
ammo. As you run forward through the north arch, two
skeletons will awaken, so dispose of them, then dive
into the small pool and pick up the LASERSIGHT. Climb
out.
On the far west wall of the room
by the second pool is a large block which needs
lowering, so turn towards the high crawlspace on the
south wall, press control and forward to climb up into
it. Follow the path up the blocks to the top and go
through the next crawlspace (east). Ahead is a swinging
silver bell you heard earlier, combine the revolver and
laser sight, zoom in to shoot it. This will lower the
block in the room below.
Return the way you came to where
the block has lowered by the second pool on the west
wall to reveal the exit. Go forward, slide down the
slope and back to the room where you collected the Body
Armour. Exit through the west door and return back
through the room where you placed the Trident. Go
straight across (north), through the entrance and drop
into the water. Swim forward, and climb out at the end,
and go forward into the next level.
LEVEL 3 (or 4 if you did the
bonus level) - IN THE LAP OF THE GODS.
Run down the passageway into the
huge arena, and as you enter the main area, you’ll get a
flyby of the soldier on horseback leaving a small cave.
Arm yourself with pistols ready to kill him.( you wont
have enough revolver ammo to kill him). As he enters the
arena, position yourself on the side where he isn’t
shielded, and blast away until he drops from his horse.
Then finish the job and when he dies, pick up the
GLADIATOR’S KEY. (You may find that when he falls off
his horse, he will remount, if this happens, as soon as
he falls from his horse, run straight up to him and
start shooting and prevent him remounting.) You can’t
progress in the game without that key, so shoot until he
dies.
Now that you have the key, you
can take the time to have a good explore round this
area. If you look up, you will see huge portraits of the
Gods high on the east wall, and platforms high on the
west wall, your ultimate destination at the end of the
level. A brief look round the soldier’s cave on the
north wall, will disclose a trapdoor. There is a secret
to find here later. Back in the arena, there is an
opening to the far left on the east wall, barred
railings on the north wall, and to the right of the
railings, a long slope with a rolling ball at the top.
Time to run up the slope, don’t
worry the rolling ball won’t drop. Just before the top
do a standing jump with grab to the left of the rolling
ball and pull up. Jump up on the ledge to the left of
the rolling ball, then climb up to stand behind it. Now
press action, and kick that ball down the slope through
the barred gates at the bottom on the north wall. (Never
seen that fantastic move before.)
Run down the slope, through the
open door and draw your pistols, ready to kill the two
lions who attack you. Follow the path west, up the steps
until you reach the middle level of the arena. You can
now get your first glimpse of the sheer size of this
arena. At the entrance, turn to your left and run to the
far end (east), step on the blue/silver tile. (Remember
the Horseman’s cave, you know you’ll find a secret there
near the end of the game, but you need to find THREE of
these blue/silver tiles in the level to open the
trapdoor). So one down, two to go.
Run back all the way past the
entrance west. Turn to face the block (south) with
pictures on it and pull up, top up your health, you’re
about to meet an old friend. Before going any further
look across the arena to the two openings on the south
wall, and to the one on the far right in particular, you
need to get there in a hurry. Now run jump across to the
front ledge and as you land the Giant Gladiator Wraith
will appear. Run past the wall painting of the fighting
gladiators on your right, and head for the opening on
the right with a diagonal running jump. Immediately turn
right and follow the path until you can slide into a pit
at the end and drop down into the water.
Wait until the Gladiator Wraith
has been destroyed, then swim down through a caged area
to the bottom and to the underwater switch on the south
wall and SAVE YOUR GAME. When you pull the switch and
start your swim back up, a huge rolling ball will be
released, you can’t climb out at the top, and neither
can you just surface at the top, the rolling ball will
still kill you. However, part of the caged area will
open on the south side, so you need to swim up quickly
and turn south through the open bars, before the rolling
ball can harm you.
So pull the switch, you’ll see
the bars of the cage rise, roll and swim up (you’ll see
the rolling ball start its descent,) and turn south as
soon as you reach the cage. It may help to hit the
‘look’ button to stop the camera shot. Swim through as
the ball passes you. now return back up to the top of
the cage to replenish your air supply, then dive back to
the cage and through the opening on the south wall.
As you swim through the
underwater passage, two crocodiles will come forward to
attack, so quickly swim into the main room and climb out
east. Kill the crocodiles from the safety of dry land.
Jump back in the water and swim the length of the pool
to the end and climb out onto the alcove on your right
and pick up flares. Back again across the pool and climb
out east. Before climbing the wall ladder, run round the
back and pick up shells, drop back in the water and pull
the underwater switch on the east wall.
This will raise a large metal
cage at the top of the ladder. Climb out and climb the
ladder to the top. Climb up the metal cage to the higher
level, and notice the high crawlspace on the south wall.
Before pulling the wall switch (west) go forward into
the next room with a large vase and an Omega Tile, you
need to raise a block to push the vase onto it. There is
a closed gate on the south wall. Return to the switch on
the west wall and pull it to raise two black metal cages
behind you.
Climb up onto them and standing
jump over to the crawlspace to pick up ammo, then still
facing south, pull up onto the next block and run across
the second blue/silver tile (for that secret). Two down,
one to go.
Return back over the two metal
cages, and drop off at the end and face east. Climb down
the next metal cage to the lower level and turn to face
the black metal wall grid west, which has now raised.
Standing jump with grab from the edge to land in the
entrance behind it. Go into the new area and turn left,
and use the Piece of Wood to prise off BRONZE PYRAMID
KEY #1 which in turn will raise a block next to the
Omega tile in the higher level.
Return to the entrance, jump
with grab to the ladder and climb back up all the way to
the far end room with the Omega Tile. Now you can push
the vase onto the Omega tile and open the first door.
(south) run down the passageway and press action to open
the double doors and be ready to dispose of the skeleton
at the end. At the junction turn right and follow the
path to a room with broken columns. At the back to the
right is another blue/silver floor tile, so run across
it, and you’ll finally get a camera shot of the trapdoor
opening in the Horseman’s cave back at the beginning of
the level.
Return back to the corridor and
run straight across and up the steps (east). There is a
ledge at the far end of the room with two water spouts,
so you know you’ll soon be flooding the pit beneath. To
your left is another entrance, run up those steps to the
higher level. Follow the steps to the bridge, and just
as you go through the first doorway, turn around and
look up to the jumpswitch to the left (north).
Angle a slightly diagonal
running jump with grab to pull it and drop down into the
pit below which is now filled with water. Swim through
the opening on the east wall, and pick up the PAPYRUS.
You’ll also get a camera shot of a gate lifting. Climb
out of the water and examine the scroll. It reads:
Begin on the symbol and face ye
south,
Leap once and then turn east
Twenty paces onward and turn
north
Eight paces and then to east
thirteen.
There’s nothing else in the pool
so you can climb out now, and retrace your steps up the
steps (north). This time when you get to the top run
straight across the bridge and turn left. Stop at the
top step before entering the room, top up your health
and SAVE YOUR GAME. There is a sloped platform ahead
with three battering rams. On the far north wall is a
ladder and above it a closed gate. As soon as you enter
the room, you’ll be attacked by two flying hammer
wraiths, and you need to get to a bird statue to destroy
them.
Although you can’t see it from
here there is an opening on the far right wall (south)
and the bird statue is in there. So start your run
across the platform being careful to avoid the battering
rams (don’t try crawling, the battering rams will knock
you off, neither can you shimmy on the slope because not
only will the hammers sap your strength, but the opening
on the right wall is too high to backflip into).
I did find that to get past the
second battering ram a standing swandive worked ok, but
you need to be so precise timing the jump. At the end of
the platform, turn to face the opening on the south wall
and running jump with grab to catch the edge, pull up
and run forward to the bird statue and wait for the
Flying Hammer wraiths to be destroyed.
Before leaving the room, go to
the right of the door and pick up flares. Return back to
the battering ram room, and from the edge do a standing
jump back to the central platform. You’ll see the closed
door on the north wall and the ladder beneath it, that’s
where you’re going next. Get as near to the battering
ram on your left as possible, then standing jump with
grab to the ladder.
Climb down, then drop and grab
the lower edge and pull up. Walk approximately halfway
down the corridor and look up, and jump up with grab to
the room above. Go and collect the flares, then pull the
switch on the east wall. Drop back into the hallway,
then run forward to the next room and to the Omega tile.
The next sequence is timed.
As you run over it, the timed
sequence will start and the gate at the far end of the
room will lift, but as soon as you step off the
‘carpeted’ part of the floor, the gate will drop, so
stand infront of the switch, save your game and pull it.
You’ll see a block emerge from the wall under the Omega
symbol in the next room. Now, still on the carpeted
floor turn to face north and to the next carpeted area
on the floor, standing jump over to it. Now turn to face
east and jump up with grab to the shimmy crack and
shimmy left, round the corner and drop off onto the
carpet below.
Roll and jump over to the next
carpet near the door and sprint through it before it
closes. Jump up to the block beneath the Omega sign,
then turn and jump to the south ledge and prise off
BRONZE PYRAMID KEY #2. You’ll also get a glimpse of the
large arched closed doors. Now as you leave this room,
at the entrance look up to your right to the ladder,(to
the right of the shimmy crack) stand underneath it and
jump up with grab to catch the rungs. Pull up and
collect SECRET #9 – medipack and shells. Safety drop
back to the floor.
Return back to the entrance of
the battering ram room, and standing jump with grab to
the lower central platform. Run down to the other end
(west) and pick up a medipack from the right. Now return
back to the other end of the platform and standing jump
with grab to the ladder on the north wall and climb down
to the bottom. If you continued to your left, you’d get
a glimpse of that large arched door, but it’s still
closed, so instead, drop of the ledge to your right and
climb down the next ladder.
Jump to the slope on the east
wall and slide down to the ground. At the bottom of the
slope is a coloured floor tile which you need to raise
to collect another Pyramid Key from high on the North
wall. Run forward (west) and jump up onto the block
ahead, where you can kill the lion safely. Turn to the
alcove on the east wall, and running jump over to it to
pick up ammo. You can also pick up shells from the small
alcove (north) on the ground.
Back to the ground, turn right
and to the corridor north, run down it to the switch at
the end., killing another lion en route. Pull the switch
to raise the black metal cage beneath the Key. This
isn’t timed. Return back to where you entered this area
and facing the black metal cage, backflip onto the slope
behind you, followed immediately by a forward jump to
land on top of the cage. Go forward and prise off BRONZE
PYRAMID KEY #3.
The large arched doors will now
open. Still on the metal cage, turn to face northeast
and standing diagonal jump back to the ladder ledge and
climb up. Continue west until you reach the open doors
on your right. The room ahead has a central fire tile,
and on each side a slope bearing an Omega sign. You need
to land on all the four slopes to extinguish the flame
and raise the door far left.
Face south by the side of the
first slope, (your back will be facing the flames) wait
for the flame to start dying down then sideflip onto it,
immediately followed by a backflip to the slope ahead.
Now quickly jump forward, back to the right side of the
first slope, using the direction key before the flames
relight. Jump on the other two slopes using the same
method. It doesn’t matter which slope you start with, as
long as you land on all four slopes, the fire will go
out and the gate will open on the north wall.
Go through the gate, and climb
up through the two passageways with the paintings of
gladiators on the wall. Ahead is a closed gate and a
central block, standing jump over to the block in the
lava and turn left. Ahead is a Pyramid Key at the far
end, flame emitters from four wall grilles and a
suspended rope.
The flames are in sequence. Top
left, top right, bottom right, bottom left. Wait until
the flames die out on the first two flames nearest you
then jump with grab to the rope, and immediately drop
down to the bottom. You can swing without getting burnt,
but you now need to swing onto the far ledge with the
Key, so you must time your jump (without grab) to avoid
the flames and land on the platform.
Prise off BRONZE PYRAMID KEY #4.
As you turn back to face the lava pit, you’ll see that a
second rope has now lowered. Wait for the flames nearest
to you to die down, then from the edge, standing jump
with grab to catch the rope and immediately drop down to
the bottom of it.
I managed to get to the other
side only using only one of the ropes. (Once you’re at
the bottom of the first rope, wait for the flames to die
then immediately swing forward and jump without grab
back to the platform). Use both ropes if it’s easier for
you. Turn to face the open door (north) and running jump
with grab to get through the entrance. As soon as you
land, you’ll hear the danger music, quickly run away
from the lava pit before the soldier can push you in,
and dispose of him.
Pick up the GLADIATOR’S KEY #2
he leaves behind. Go forward into the small ante-chamber
and use one of the keys to open the gate on the west
wall. Run through and back to the arena at the start of
the level, where hungry lions are waiting for you on the
ground floor level. Shoot them from the slope where you
kicked the rolling ball at the start of this level. Time
to collect that secret.
Run down to the ground and to
the soldier’s cave on the north wall with your pistols
drawn, kill the two lions waiting inside. Climb down the
ladder through the open trapdoor and pick up SECRET #10
- two medipacks and shells. Climb back up and re-enter
the arena.
Keeping to your left, face the
far wall (east) and run over to it, past the open door
where you first kicked the rolling ball, jump up onto
the first block in the corner. Now turn to face
southeast and to the lowest part of the sloped rock
ahead and standing jump onto it.
(it’s quite a tricky jump). Run forward and use the
second Gladiator’s Key to open the door behind you to
the left.
Whichever side of the steps you
run up, be careful of the flame emitters on both sides
of the door. The new area has a large closed arch door
on the north wall, and ladder on the far south wall, but
the trapdoor above it is closed. Jump in the water and
pick up ammo, then surface and climb out onto the Omega
tile in the centre of the pool. Time to use the Papyrus.
Follow the instructions given on the papyrus scroll to
the letter. Stand on the Omega symbol in the centre and
face south, standing jump without grab over to the side
of the pool and turn to face east.
WALK twenty steps forward then
turn to face North. WALK eight steps forward then turn
to face East. WALK thirteen steps forward, and you’ll
see that the large arched door is open. Go forward and
pull the wall switch to open a trapdoor leading to the
exit from the game. Now forward up the steps but before
you go to the lava pit, turn to the high arched alcove
on the south wall, pull up and pick up a medipack and
ammo. Move forward now to the lava pit with intermittent
flames and collapsible gratings overhead running the
length of the lava channel.
Stand at the far right of the
lava channel underneath the first grating facing west.
Jump up with grab to catch the edge. Pull up and running
jump with grab to the second grating, pull up and
standing jump to the third, Now turn to your left and
running jump over to the grating on your left, hop back
and running jump with grab to the next grating and pull
up. Now a slightly diagonal running jump with grab to
the next grating, turn sharp left, standing jump to the
grating round the corner, standing jump with grab to the
next higher grating and pull up. Now a running jump with
grab to the platform at the other side, and instantly
draw the Grenade Gun to shoot the three skeletons who
rise up. Kill them before they have chance to push you
into the lava.
In the centre of the south wall
ahead is an intermittent spike block, and at the other
side of it a safe ledge. Wait till the spikes are almost
down, then standing jump into the opening followed
immediately by a running jump to the slope ahead. Walk
down the corridor, but don’t walk on the trapdoor which
will lead you back to the room with the Papyrus puzzle.
Turn right and run up the small slope, climb the block
at the end and follow the passage to enter an awesome
room at the top of the arena. Watch as the camera pans
Thor’s palace, and comes to rest on the statue of the
great warrior himself.
At the entrance, turn to look to
your left to the keyhole and the closed gate. Behind the
gate is a rolling ball. Ahead, south is the receptacle
for the Pyramid Keys, and to your right is the statue of
Thor. Run up the slope south and to the pyramid, and
place the four Pyramid Keys. The sides of the pyramid
will retract, allowing you to go forward – the glass
case will drop and allow you to pick up the HAMMER.
Before returning outside, top up
your health (I hope you’ve picked up every medipack en
route) and SAVE YOUR GAME. Run down the slope, and as
you enter the top arena, Thor awakens, and he’s not
happy.!!! You can’t kill him with conventional weaponry.
The blue lighting will seriously affect your health, the
fire bolts will kill you instantly. You need to grab the
key off Thor’s pedestal to open the gate back at the
entrance of the arena.
Sprint past him, turn west and
run to jump on the pedestal and retrieve the GATE KEY
then run across the pedestal to the alcove behind it.
Keep topping up on the medipacks and turn back to face
the arena. Look left (northeast ) to the entrance gate,
the keyhole receptacle for the Gate Key is to the right
of it, so take a deep breath and jump down from the
pedestal and sprint like mad, evading Thor and run up
the slope.(east) (Easier said than done, he’s really
hard to get past, but all you can do is keep trying).
Use the Gate Key, and go through
the open door, run up the slope behind the rolling ball,
and wait for Thor to enter this area. Now press action
to kick the ball, and watch as it starts to roll down
the slope crushing Thor in its wake. Isn’t that
amazing!!!
Leave this room now and return
to the entrance where a new entrance has opened to the
right of it. Go through and slide down the slope to the
water below. Swim forward then up and climb out at the
end. Run up the slope, turn right towards the sunset
ahead and the waiting jeep to finish this superb set of
levels.
