Lara has met many deaths
in her time, like a cat with nine lives. But the nine have expired and "The
10th" has arrived. To earn a new chance, she will have to repay, For the
death of her enemies... past Karma awaits. Cast down from the sky, she
begins a new trial, To live through, to endure, to survive "The 10th Life".
Pickups:
Small medipacks, 10x Lives, flares, large medipacks, revolver,
lasersight, revolver ammo, 2x Water Elements, Fire Element
+ 10 Secrets (large medipacks x 4 +
revolver ammo + large medipack + revolver ammo x 2 + small medipack + large
medipack)
Enemies:
Ahmets, (crocodile- can be avoided altogether), Horned Reapers
The Starry Slope-
finding the first secret:
Lara has been cast down from the skies into the space
between realms and we now find her sliding down a long and starry slope.
Soon you will see a bluish light near the bottom of the slope and when you
do so look for a red block ahead. Jump to said block and first of all take a
close look at the golden symbols on the wall (these hold a certain
importance for later on). Next standjump over to the pickup right- this is
Secret # 1: a large medipack. Return
to the red block and drop down onto the green slope below. She will continue
sliding until she lands on a ledge high up in a large hall.
Watch the fly-by treating you to a small peek at the
impressive hall that lies ahead of you. One thing that is emphasized in
particular is a lever inside a window alcove, so we can only presume that
reaching it is one of the tasks on today’s schedule.
The Hall of Hades-
some secrets are meant to be found:
Walk forwards and pick up the
small medipack laying abandoned on the
ledge. The floor below is quite
deadly, so don’t bother going that way. Walk to the edge and hop back once.
Do a standing jump forwards to land on the slope closest to Lara, keep
pressing Jump so that she’ll bounce along the remaining slopes. At some
point she’ll reach two adjacent slopes and at the end there’s a
flame emitter blocking the path
between her and the final, single slope. First of all you have to make sure
that she lands so that she’s facing the wall with the
flame
emitter. The trick here is to bounce back and forth between the
slopes (easily done by pressing Jump continuously) while pressing the
right arrow key to steer her in direction of the
flame emitter. Right before you reach
it you might have to bounce back and forth a bit (without moving further
down the slopes) until the flame
dies out, otherwise she will catch fire as you try to navigate her past it.
When the fire ceases do one final
right-angled jump, slide and jump again to land on the final slope (this
time you have to make sure that she lands face forwards). Immediately
jump forwards and press Action to grab the overhead monkeyswing.
Traverse towards the corner, but be careful with the
flame emitter on the left wall. Wait
for the right moment, then quickly move forwards, around the corner and
further down on the other side. There’s another
flame emitter ahead, this time it’s
mounted on top of a slope. Go as close as you can without Lara catching fire
and when the flame subsides move
quickly to the end of the monkeyswing, drop and jump as soon as she lands on
the slope, pressing Action to grab the ladder ahead.
Climb around to the opposite side and, sticking to the
bottom of the ladder, backflip/roll/grab to reach the ladder behind. Climb
around this ladder too and now the window with the lever on the other side
is located directly behind her. Go as far down on the ladder as possible
(making sure that her legs are still tucked up on the ladder) and I’d
recommend to save the game before attempting the next manoeuvre, especially
if it’s been a while since the last time you saved. What you have to do is
to press the following keys: Alt (Jump), End (Roll),
Spacebar (Draw guns, only tap this one lightly though- do not keep
it pressed continuously) and Action (Fire). This done
correctly she will draw guns just as she backflips, roll in mid-air and
blast out the window pane, thus landing safely inside the alcove.
Pull the lever and watch the short fly-by showing you a
gate opening in the wall near a climbable pole and in addition a
spike trap is deactivated on one of the
slopes, enabling you to get past. Do not leave the alcove yet though,
there’s still a secret for you to find nearby. Turn to face the wall
opposite of the lever handle and jump straight up to grab an invisible crack
in said wall. Shimmy right until you can pull up into an alcove containing
Secret # 2: a large medipack.
Drop down and walk out onto the window sill. Angle Lara
right and hop back so that she can do an angled running jump to land on the
nearby slope (this is where the spikes were deactivated earlier). Slide and
jump to land on a second slope. To make things easier here you should make
sure she’s facing upwards so that she can grab the edge on the way down.
Shimmy left to the end, pull up and backflip/roll with a right angle to land
on the slope behind. Now you have to jump again the moment Lara lands on the
slope so that she’ll reach the next one. Slide and do one final jump to land
on the safe ledge by the wall.
Walk along the ledge to the left, taking a mental note
of the five receptacles here (these are for some of the lives you will be
gathering later on). Soon enough you will find a climbable pole on your
left-hand side, the only issue at hand being the
flame emitter located at the bottom
of the pole. What you need to do is to wait up until a split second before
the flame subsides, then do a
running jump to grab the pole and instantly climb up as high as you can. The
next part is a bit tricky, so save your game before starting. First of all
position Lara as shown in the screenshot below:

Turn the sound up and wait until you hear the
spikes popping up. When this happens
immediately backflip and roll to land on the slope behind just as the
spikes come up again. Jump to land on
the spike pillar and quickly
sideflip right to land on a slope and avoid being impaled. Do one final jump
with a sharp left angle so that Lara finally lands on a safe block. From
there do a running jump to grab the climbable pole ahead, turn Lara around
and climb upwards a bit. Position her so that you see the alcove with the
open gate directly behind her and backflip to land safely on the floor.
The slide of
Eternity- the 1st Life and another secret:
Stick to the left-hand side and start sliding. As Lara
hits the second slope continue sliding for a bit and jump forwards with a
hard right angle to land on the flat part on top of the third slope. Climb
the ladder up here and retrieve the 1st
Life out of 10, a gate at the very bottom opens as you do so.
Again take a mental note of the alchemical symbols decorating the wall and
climb down the ladder. Stand on the right-hand side and start sliding again.
The moment she lands on the second slope jump forwards with a sharp left
angle, this should be enough to for her to land on a ledge containing
Secret # 3: a large medipack.
The Hall of Atlas-
boulders, slopes and secrets:
Slide all the way to the bottom, but before entering
the newly opened gate turn around and pick up the
flares in the dark alcove. There’s a
ladder on the right wall of the alcove, this is for climbing back up to the
top of the slopes, but we’re not going that way now. Drop back down and
enter the room beyond the open gate.
As soon as you enter you’ll begin to hear an ominous
rumbling. Before checking it out though turn left and locate the crawlspace
down on the floor level. Vault down into the space below and pick up
Secret # 4: a large medipack. To get
back up you have to grab the ladder on the wall opposite of the narrow space
and backflip/roll, which should get her out safe and sound.
Now go towards the other side of the room and you’re
met by the sight of two boulders
rolling up and down a ramp. I found it easier to stand in front of the
rightmost boulder and run after it
as it rolls away from Lara. At this point you can veer left (seeing as
how the boulder in that
lane will be rolling in the opposite direction at that point, towards the
entrance). Either way run up to the wall ahead, the
boulders won’t reach Lara there.
Pull up through the opening in the wall left and Lara
will slide down to a flat spot. Turn left to face the row of slopes, stand
about one step away from the edge and standjump to land on the first slope.
Jump at the end and continue pressing Jump while Lara bounces across the
next two slopes, veering sharply to the left to land in a wall alcove. Pull
the lever here, opening a gate down on the ground level, and turn around to
face the far wall (W). Use the binoculars to spot a
narrow crawlspace in the wall, you can do a running jump to grab it and pull
up into a small room containing Secret # 5:
revolver ammo.
NOTE: This is the easy way of
obtaining the secret and possibly not the one intended by the builder. The
other method includes a raised pillar and a timed run/jump and I will also
include this further down in the walkthrough.
Raising pillars and
a timed run:
Drop down onto the block in the corner and from here
you can safely kill the ahmet running
lose in the same room. It’s a bit elusive so you might have to occasionally
run off the platform to lure it out. Just remember that as long as Lara is
standing on that platform she’s perfectly safe. Now head over to the far
side of the room and left of the ladder leading up to where you started out
you’ll find the gate that opened earlier. Hop onto the platform in front of
the second gate (which is currently closed) to open another gate at
the opposite side of the hall (where you dropped down to kill the ahmet).
Head over there and get ready for a timed run.
Stand with Lara’s back to the newly opened gate, about
one hop away from it, and backflip to land onto the ornate platform in the
alcove. As you will notice this raises the block on your right-hand side
into a pillar. A timer will start the moment you leave the platform and you
only have so much time to reach said pillar before it lowers again.
Run off the platform and
dash to the far end of the room, veering right to face the ladder. Climb up
until Lara is holding her hands on top of the ladder and immediately
backflip/roll to land on the slope behind. Jump across the next two slopes,
veering left at the end again to land on the ledge with the lever. From
there run with a slightly right angle and jump to the timed pillar. Turn
left and quickly locate the jump switch up on the wall, do a standing jump
straight up and press Action to grab it. A final gate opens and the pillar
should lower again shortly thereafter.
Remember that I
mentioned earlier there is another way of obtaining the secret? In order to
do it the other way you need to return to the trigger tile, raise the pillar
and repeat the timed run again. The only difference is that instead of
pulling the jump switch you simply duck and crawl straight ahead into the
crawlspace where you’ll find the secret. A bit more of an adrenaline rush
perhaps, but just know that there is an easier way too.
The Puzzle of the
Gilded Symbols:
Head back to the other end of the hall once more and
here you’ll find the gate you opened by pulling the jump switch. In the next
room some symbols you should recognise are painted on the walls, although at
certain spots some of the symbols seem to be missing. Along the E
wall (to the right) you’ll find some moveable blocks, these also have
golden symbols painted on them. What you need to do is to move those blocks
into the gaps in the N and S wall so that the two lines of
symbols are completed. To make it easier I’ll start by moving from left to
right (this is when facing the E row of moveable blocks).
The first block goes in the middle of the S wall
(this is the only”slot” you have to fill in here, the remaining two
blocks go in the N wall). The middle block does not fit in
anywhere so just push/pull it out of the way. The third block goes in the
rightmost alcove in the N wall and behind it you’ll find a fourth
moveable block which naturally fits into the leftmost alcove in the N
wall. A small explosion will set in every time you place a block into one of
the alcoves and when the puzzle is solved the gate nearby opens.
The Lava Main Hall-
in need of firearms:
A fly-by of the next room greets you as Lara walks
through the open gate. You now know that there’s an
ahmet waiting down there and the room is
also partially covered in lava so
better be careful. Pick up the large medipack
and drop down onto the slope below. Now you’ll need to dispose of
the ahmet and this can be done either
by jumping back and forth (again, being careful to stay clear of the
lava) or make your way up
to the flat top of the slope at the opposite end where you can shoot the
creature from safety.
Jump up to the top of the slopes in the corner opposite
of the entrance and look up to find a monkeyswing running along the ceiling
(looks a bit like grey scales if you ask me). Traverse
along to the end and drop down onto the tall rock in the middle of the room.
From here you can shoot the two vases flanking the large gate at the far end
(and also the ahmet if you haven’t already). You’ll find that
breaking those not only reveals pickup, but also a rope to your left. Turn
to face the rope and standjump towards it while pressing Action. Lara should
grab hold of it and now you’ll need to swing over towards the slanted
platform on top of the slopes by the wall ahead. From there runjump over to
the ledge by the black gate and retrieve the
revolver and lasersight
left behind when the vases shattered.
Walk to the other end of the ledge and slide down to
the floor, pick up the revolver ammo.
Lara will be gazing up at a vase high up on a pillar and now that you have
an appropriate weapon you can easily aim for the vase and shatter it. The
black gate opens and upon closer inspection you’ll also find that a second
rope has lowered, this one you can reach from the platform where Lara’s
standing and it will take her directly to the ledge with the now open gate
(remember to grab the edge though).
The 2nd
Lava Cave- finding the Water Element:
We’re not going through that gate
quite yet though. Instead turn left and walk up to the corner where you’ll
find a crawlspace high up on the wall. Pull up there and crawl through, drop
down on the other side. Jump over the slope ahead and Lara should slide down
onto a flat block with some revolver ammo.
Pick it up and stand at the edge of the slope facing the left part.
Standjump over the slope to land on the opposite side, slide a bit and jump
to reach the flat part at the base of another cluster of slopes.
Now, there’s an
ahmet waiting over at the rocks on the
other side. You can proceed over there and kill it up close, but personally
I prefer to conserve health so I’m always looking for alternatives to make
the killing as easy and free of pain as possible. If you use the
revolver/pistol-shortcut-code-trick you might be able to aim for and kill
the beast through the triangular crack between the slopes.
NOTE:
Here’s the revolver/pistols-shortcut-code-trick for those who are not
already familiar with it: combine the revolver with the lasersight (provided
you’ve shot the vase up on the pillar in the previous room you should
already have done so by now) and aim for whatever you wish to shoot (in this
case it might be the ahmet on the opposite side of the room). While keeping
the Look key pressed (this is what makes sure that the aim will stay put)
press the key 1 on the keyboard. You should hear a click as Lara holsters
her revolver and draws the pistols. Now you can start firing as much as you
like and when you let go of the aim you’ll find that Lara is holding onto
the pistols and that not a single revolver bullet has been wasted.
Stand facing the entrance of the
room and backflip onto the slope behind. Immediately jump forwards while
pressing Action and hopefully Lara should grab hold of the overhead
monkeyswing. Turn around and traverse to the end, drop down onto the short
slope and immediately jump to land on the rocks opposite (noticing the
gate in the wall ahead and left). Kill the
ahmet if you haven’t already and vault up
into the small alcove right where you can pick up the
Water Element.
Rocky
Mountains:
The nearby gate opens so drop down
and approach it. There’s a slope on the other side, step onto it and Lara
immediately starts sliding. Wait until she approaches the end of the slope
and then jump to land on the next one. Jump again right away and she should
land on the slope by the waterfall. Slide and grab the edge, shimmy left to
the end and pull up, then backflip/roll and grab the edge of the next slope
behind. Pull up and continue sliding and jumping from slope to slope until
she reaches the one slope left of the second waterfall. Grab the edge of
said slope, shimmy right until she is positioned next to the waterfall, pull
up and backflip. As she lands on the slope jump forwards with a sharp right
angle and she should land on top of the second waterfall.
NOTE:
If you should fall into the water there’s a low block in the corner
N/E that you can climb up onto, but beware that doing so will lure out a
crocodile from the depths of the pool.
This creature is also of the elusive sort and will for that reason hide
among the rocks rather than to let Lara kill it straight away, resulting in
that you might not be able to kill it at all. In case you should happen to
trigger its appearance simply staying out of the water should keep her safe.
From this point you can get back to the second waterfall by standjump onto
the lower part of the nearby slope and jump with a sharp right angle to land
directly on top of the waterfall.
As you might have noticed there’s a
ladder nearby. Climb up to the top and immediately backflip/roll to land on
the rocks opposite. Soon enough you’ll find that Lara is under fire- the
culprit is a Horned Reaper standing
high up on the rocks to the left. Try to stay underneath the rock he’s
standing on; in my case he got stuck and kept firing energy bolts out into
thin air. By using the revolver/pistols trick you can aim for him and just
keep firing until he falls. I found this necessary as she won’t
automatically aim for him from down there and the trees can easily get in
the way otherwise (not to mention the fact that she will be within his
range). When he finally falls pick up the
revolver ammo nearby.
At the back N/E corner
there’s a large tree. Behind this tree there’s a flat block, surrounded by
slopes. You have to reach the top of this block and I found that the easiest
way of doing so was to position Lara as shown in the screenshot below and
simply backflip onto the block:

Check-
another two lives and a secret:
Continue climbing upwards to the
next block and do an angled running jump to land on top of the waterfall.
Here you can pick up the 2nd Life
(you’re shown a camera
shot of a closed gate)
before doing an angled running jump to the flat shelf among the slopes
(on the opposite side of where you came from). If you face the waterfall
at the far end of this area (towards where the Horned Reaper stood)
you’ll find a row of slopes going around the perimeter. You have to runjump
to the first slope and continue to bounce along the slopes, angling Lara
sharply right at the corner and going on with the bouncing until she reaches
the flat mountain shelf.
There’s a passage going through the
mountain to the left. Ready the revolver, climb up and turn right by the
lava trench, as soon as Lara starts
aiming fire off three-four quick bullets in order to kill the
ahmet before it cowers back into the
passage on the left side (it won’t come back out, making it more
difficult for Lara as she then would have to kill it up close). Turn
left and do a long running jump up to the bluish part of the rock and drop
down into the blue hole left. Pick up the 3rd
Life and climb back up where you came from. Drop down into the
rocky passage, vault up onto the slope to the right and Lara will slide down
to where the dead ahmet is. Turn left and follow the passage to another
slope, pull over the top and slide down to
Secret # 6: a large medipack.
Three
new lives down- four to go:
Jump out of the pit and return to
the start of the lava trench by
bouncing back and forth along the slopes across the
lava. Head out to the waterfall area
and slide down to the level below. Climb the ladder back down to the
waterfall below and this time face S/W. Run off the waterfall to land
on the slope below and bounce back and forth towards the right until Lara is
located directly underneath the monkeyswing (with the hanging foliage).
Traverse to the very end and drop down in front of the closed gate, here
you’ll find the 4th Life
(you just need two more to open the gate you’ve been seeing every time
you’ve picked up a life so far).
Dive into the water and first of all
swim down through the opening underneath the waterfall near the W
wall, pick up Secret # 7: revolver ammo.
Surface for air and go back down again, this time swim down to the S/E
corner and look for an opening underneath the overhang. Pick up the
5th Life (just one more
needed for now) and surface for air. Pull up onto the slope (facing
W) and bounce back and forth towards the right until Lara
is standing on firm land once again. You’re now located at a different part
of the lava room from before. There’s a gate in the N wall, you were
standing on the other side of this gate before when you picked up the life
after the monkeyswing above the pool.
Hop over the waterhole, turn right
(S) and standjump onto the first slope you see ahead.
Slide, jump to the second slope and jump again. Lara slides down onto the
ledge in front of the closed gate. Stand on the higher part of the slope and
do a long running jump to land on the rocks S/E. Crawl under the
overhang and pick up the 6th
Life, the gate in the room below
finally opens. Drop down onto the safe tile below and standjump through the
triangular opening between the slope and rocks to get back to the ledge from
before. The open gate left leads back to the lava
room from before. Do a running jump to grab the rope closest to you
and swing over to the slanted platform by the left wall. From there it
should be a piece of cake to get back to the ledge by the open gate.
How to
avoid a rock slide:
It’s finally time to see what’s on
the other side. By the sound of it we’re not in for a pleasant treat though,
so now’s a good time to save the game. Go towards the left side of the ramp,
but stay one tile away from the left wall (far up ahead on the ramp
you’ll spot a slightly elevated tile on the floor- make sure you stick to
that “lane”). Once you reach said tile a row of
boulders will drop from the ceiling
up ahead. Wait for a split second, then sideflip left onto the slope by the
wall. Bounce back from the slope and Lara should avoid the
boulders (barely anyways). It
is possible to trigger and avoid all the
boulders in one go (that‘s what I did), but if you don’t
you’ll have to step forwards to trigger the
boulders, step back to the elevated tile and sideflip left again
onto the slope to avoid them.
A
spike trap has been activated in front of the gate down at the
bottom, so forwards is obviously the way to go. Walk up to the centre of the
ramp, look up to spot a monkeyswing. Stand on the tall part of the floor and
jump up to grab the monkey-swing. Turn around, traverse forwards and left
through the doorway. As you do so a gate opens and three pillars ahead rise,
this is the start of a timed run. Drop down onto the trigger tile, step back
as far as you can (stand at the back left corner and angle Lara slightly
right so that you’ll have enough momentum for a running jump) and save
the game.
A timed
run- pillars, switches and let’s not forget the secret:
Runjump to
land on the first raised pillar. Keep running with a small angle to the
right and jump at the edge to reach the second timed pillar. Immediately
continue running with a final jump to land on the edge opposite. Run quickly
over to the switch on the wall right, pull it, roll and dash with a roll
through both the timed gates before they close. Just ignore the switch on
the wall between the gates, it’s just there in case you get stuck between
the gates.
Head through the left doorway to the
fire room and standjump to the first block. Before doing anything else turn
to face the right wall and hop backwards while pressing Action. There’s a
ladder at the side of the block so climb down and retrieve
Secret # 8: revolver ammo before going
back up and getting ready for a quite tricky challenge.
The
Trail of Blazing Fires:
I prefer to start at the left side,
but this is optional. Either way do a running jump to land on one of the
slopes, continue bouncing back and forth between them. You have to be a bit
careful for two reasons: the overhang might prevent Lara from being able to
reach the opposite slope and there’s a flame emitter in the wall ahead. Stop moving sideways
(i.e. start bouncing back and forth in one place) when the
flame comes back on (making sure
she’s not too close) and continue moving down along the slopes when the
flame emitter stops. Go on jumping
back and fort until you can steer Lara sharply right (if you’re facing
the left side of the room, left if you’re facing the right side), the
goal is to land her on the sloped block underneath the overhang so that she
can slide down onto the safe block in the centre.
It would probably be a good idea to
save the game here, but I didn’t need to tell you that. Do a running jump to
the right slope and keep bouncing back and forth again, being careful to
avoid the flame emitter. The ideal
thing would be to land on the flat block with the
flame emitter before it comes back
on. Stand at the back corner (closest to the exit) and wait for the
flame to cease again, then do a
running jump with a sharp right angle to land up by the gate in the corner
at the far end of the slopes.
The
Blue Passage- an Element of Fire:
Turn left and jump over to the
ornate tile, stand facing the opposite side and jump up to grab the handle
of the overhead trapdoor. Pull up into a blue passage with a closed gate and
swinging chains. Time your way
past the first couple of chains
and pick up the Fire Element at
the red part in the centre. At the far end you’ll find a hole that leads
back down to the block where you started out upon entering the fire room and
we’re definitely not going that way right now. Up on the far wall there’s a
triangular opening, leading to a closed gate and in the water tunnel on the
other side of said gate there’s another life for us to find. But more on
that later: for now just turn around and head back past the
chains to drop back down into the
fire room (on the right side of course).
Back at
the Boulder Ramp:
Hop over to the gate that opened
when you picked up the element. Head through and you’re back at the boulder
ramp. This time go up to the top, but before heading through the double
gates climb up into the left-hand alcove to retrieve
Secret # 9: a small medipack. Drop down
and go through the gates on top. In the next room you’re met with the sight
of another set of double gates at the bottom of the stairs, with a
receptacle on each side. Place the two elements you’ve found in their
rightful places and the gates open.
The
Lava Tile Puzzle:
As you approach the edge some blocks
rise in the next room. The ornate tiles in the
lava below are trigger tiles and they
form part of a puzzle. Your goal is to step onto the trigger tiles in the
correct order to lower all the blocks that rose in the room ahead. I’ve
decided to number the top three tiles (the three furthest away from Lara
and counting from left to right) 1, 2 and 3. The bottom tiles (the
ones closest to the entrance) are called 4, 5 and 6. See the provided
screenshot for the tiles and their respective numbers:

First of all hop down to trigger
tile 4. If you’re fast enough you might get to see the block lowering next
to the left-hand gilded statue at the bottom of the room. Jump down to the
statue and move it onto the lowered block. Climb up onto trigger tile 3
(this is the leftmost one when you’re standing at the lower floor looking up
towards the entrance) and from there standjump onto tile 5. Now hop back
to tile 3. Return to the lower floor and climb up by the statue, pull it
once onto the newly lowered block.
Walk around the ledge and jump onto
tile 6, raising the block with the statue as well as another one. Standjump
back to the ledge, cross the room and climb the ledge opposite, then jump
onto tile 1. Back down again we go and climb up to the front of the statue
(done by climbing up on the side of it and then shimmy around the edge of
the block before pulling up at the front), push it once onto one of the
lowered blocks. Go around the statue to the right and push it onto the
second lowered block. Drop to the floor and jump onto tile 6, then hop over
to tile 3.
It’s quite obvious where things are
headed now- go back up to the statue and push it forwards first and then
onto the right block. The next tile to step onto is tile 3 and then tile 5,
by now the statue should be level with the top ledge. Return down to the
ground, climb all the way up and push the statue onto the top floor. There
are two ornate blocks up here and your next job is to move the statues onto
each their block. That done the double gates will open and you can continue
through them.
The
Lava Antechamber- moving blocks and trigger tiles:
First of all go around to the left
to find an alcove holding a large medipack.
Return to the black gates and head past them and around the right corner.
Jump over the lava to a safe tile
and from there jump onto the nearby ornate trigger tile. A camera shot shows
a block raising in front of a moveable block. Look left for a second trigger
tile, jump over to it and the block from before will lower again. Hop back
to the last safe tile (the one that is now in front of the first trigger
tile) and turn left. Do not climb onto the block, there’s
lava on top of it. Instead jump to
the nearby safe tile and from there do another standing jump to the recently
lowered block where you’ll also find the moveable block.
Pull it out once and return to the
first trigger tile via the safe floor tiles. Stepping onto it will raise the
block again, this time with the moveable block on top of it. Go back to the
safe tile by the E wall (right of the pillar). The grey bars
on the wall indicate that it’s climbable so grab hold and climb up and
around the corner to the right, past the lava
until she can drop down onto safe grounds. Push the moveable
block once onto the block with the lava on top and drop down to the safe
tile below. Now make your way via the safe tiles over to trigger tile 2,
step onto it and voila: the block lowers to reveal an opening leading into a
new room.
Hall of
the Rotating Slicers- getting to the other side in one piece:
Now you know where to go. Jump over
to the opening and enter the newly revealed area. Let the fly-by guide you
across a large room with a stepped ramp across a
lava pit, various pickups to be found
in the alcoves scattered across the room and then the really bad news: a
line of five slicers rolling
through the air.
First things first: turn left and
hop along the flat parts on top, watching the course of the
slicers carefully so you don’t risk
being hit by any of them. Move along until you reach the final alcove where
you’re safe and in addition there’s some
revolver ammo there for you to pick up. Face N/W, arm Lara
with the revolver and look for a swinging blue ball in an alcove at the far
right wall. Shoot it to lower a rope at the centre of the room. Time your
way past the slicers back to the
entrance and from that point over to the large
medipack at the far right end. Arm Lara with the revolver again
and this time aim for the swinging blue ball in the far S/W alcove.
By now you should have two ropes available and you are to use these in order
to get across to the other side.
Return to the entrance and stand
back so that Lara avoids being hit, make sure you face the ropes square on.
It is possible to get across without losing health, but this is rather
difficult. Wait for the closest slicer
to pass, then run off the ledge and as soon as Lara lands step back as far
as possible. The moment the slicer
comes into view do a running jump to grab the first rope. Start swinging
immediately and when Lara swings forwards the third time (i.e. after two
backswings) leap off the rope at the highest point and press Action to
grab the second rope. You’ll now have to climb up to the top of the rope-
this should be possible to do right before the
slicer reaches Lara and this way it
won’t hit her. As soon as it has passed slide down to the bottom of the rope
and swing across to the other side where you can finally save the game and
retrieve that well-earned large medipack.
Turn S and go to the far end,
then turn left to face the centre of the room. Wait for the slicer to pass,
drop down onto the slope and when Lara lands on the flat block turn right
and run off onto another block. From there drop down into the bluish alcove.
She lands on a trigger tile that causes a block to lower somewhere else and
there’s also a large medipack to pick
up here. Wait for the slicer, then
climb up N and time a row of jumps across the flat blocks until you
reach the other side. Drop down onto another trigger tile (lowering a
second block) and pick up the large medipack.
It’s time to return to the top and
this is done by pulling up onto the block S as soon as the first
slicer passes. Wait for the second
slicer to pass, then hop up to the
next block. Step back once and do a diagonal standing jump up to the next
block right and another one up to the top. Proceed through the doorway with
the trigger tile and go left. Here you’ll find a moveable block on the
left-hand side (second block from the end), push it out as far as it
goes. Now return back outside and go to the far N side, this is where the
blocks lowered earlier. Turn to face the left block (so Lara is standing
with her back to the slicers) and pull it out once. Now hop around to
the left and pull the block with you along the ledge until it is positioned
directly in front of the doorway with the third trigger tile. Turn and head
through the opening in the wall that you uncovered by pushing out the block
earlier and pull the final block onto the trigger tile, causing a gate to
open somewhere nearby.
The
Stargate Passage:
Return out to the ledge and go to
the far N end, enter the recently uncovered passage to the left and
here you’ll find the open gate. On the other side there’s a so-called
stargate to the left and another
trigger tile to the right. Step onto the trigger tile first, opening a gate
that leads out to a rather familiar room (remember the blue passage with
the swinging chains?). Now you have to make your way through the
stargate. Climb up to it and position
Lara so that she’s facing the centre of it and standing as close as
possible, then do a simple roll as the blades
open up. There’s a second stargate
in the passage as well, you can get past that the same way.
Step onto the trigger tile in the
next room to lower a block near the swinging chains passage. Continue
following the tunnel to the end where the gate opened earlier is located.
Hop over the slope (being careful not to hit the
swinging chain) and time your
way past the chains to the far
left end. Up on the wall there’s a triangular opening- pull up there and
down to the right you’ll spot an underwater passage behind a gate (and
also a life you’ll be retrieving later on). To the left you’ll find a
stairway going up behind the block you lowered before.
When you reach the second step from
the top search the right-hand wall for a crawlspace (behind some hanging
foliage). Pull up there and drop down on the other side, a camera shot
shows a door opening somewhere (indicating that you’ve just stepped onto
a trigger tile). Return to the stairs, go up to the top and head right
to find the open door. Pick up the small
medipack and continue through to the next room.
The
Crystal Maze- the 7th Life and a final secret:
In this room you’ll find four
switches and also a trigger tile to the left. The switches open and close
various doors in the maze ahead of you and the trigger tile resets the doors
back to the way they were to begin with. First of all we’re going to find a
secret so head over to the switches and pull # 1, 2 and 3. Go over to the
maze and follow it until you reach Secret # 10: a large medipack (which also happens to be
this level’s last one).
Return to the switches and step onto
the trigger tile. Pull switches # 1, 3 and 4 and follow the maze around to
the right until you finally reach a swirling teleported where you can pick
up the 7th Life. In
addition Lara is transported up to the level above the maze. You’ll soon
enough find out (or hear, rather) that you’re not alone up here, but
never mind that now. We’ll get to the culprit all in due time. Right now you
have a bigger problem and that’s figuring out where to go next. Note that
the glass floor is a death trap so
whatever you do it would be a wise idea to stay clear of it.
A trail
of broken tiles:
Stand next to the brown block and
face the wall. Sideflip right onto the slope and backflip to land on a
collapsible tile. Immediately standjump
forwards to grab the ladder. Climb up nearly all the way, backflip and the
moment you land on the next collapsible tile
jump straight up to grab the monkeyswing. Turn around and traverse to
the end, turn right and drop down onto the edge of a third
collapsible tile.
Immediately standjump while pressing
Action to sail underneath the arch and grab the
collapsible tile. Shimmy around two corners left, pull up and
backflip/roll with a grab to reach the next tile. Shimmy left around the
first corner, go to the second corner, pull up and turn left, then jump to
grab the final tile. Stick to the right corner, pull up, roll and runjump to
grab the overhead arch.
Dealing
with multi-tasking:
I prefer to save the game here, as
what’s next on the schedule demands a bit of…err, multi-tasking. Pull up,
backflip and continue bouncing back and forth between the slopes. At the
same time draw guns and start firing at the
Horned Reaper that you’ve been hearing since you came through the
teleported. It’s a good idea to just keep bouncing back and forth when you
reach the rope (so without moving neither left nor right) and just
keep plugging off at him until he falls. That done you can jump forwards to
grab the rope and start swinging a bit, dropping down on the flat block with
the large medipack.
The
Boulder Ramps- retrieving the final Element:
Stand facing the
boulder rolling towards you. Wait for
the boulder to come towards Lara,
let it roll away and once you see it reaching the far end of the ramp jump
up onto the boulder ramp. Jump again to clear the
boulder and perform a final jump with
a sharp left angle to land on a ledge where you’ll find the
Water Element. The receptacle for it
is located on the opposite ledge (across the boulder ramp you came from)
and when you place the element there you’ll hear a flushing sound.
Flooding and un-flooding the Maze- the final lives:
The room below is now flooded so you
can dive in and pick up the 8th Life
from the formerly fire-trapped glass floor above the maze. It
would be a good idea to draw your breath and save the game before attempting
to get through the next challenge, unless you’re very confident with
underwater mazes. Face the S wall and swim through the S/W
opening. Go up to the right and follow the tunnel to the
9th Life. Return to the main
room and this time face the opening in the N wall. Swim right and
then left, in the larger room go down to the N/W corner to find an
open gate. Go through there and up left where Lara can surface.
Notice the switch on the wall to the
right, then climb up onto the ramp. Follow it up to two gates and pull the
switch, opening the left gate. In this room you’ll find the receptacles for
the lives you’ve found, but you’re still missing one. Return down the ramp
and you’ll find that the hallway is no longer flooded. Pull the switch and
go down right past the gate you came through earlier (now closed). Go to the
end and there it is at last: the 10th
Life (you can barely get a glimpse of the blue passage with
the chains beyond it).
Hall of
Hades Revisited- getting rid of the final lives:
Return to the receptacle room and
place five of the lives you’ve found in the receptacles there. The remaining
five receptacles are located out in the Hall of Hades where you
started the level and now the gate leading out there should be open. Drop
down onto the ledge below and place the remaining five lives into their
rightful receptacles. Climb up into the now open passage at the end to find
Lara in a tall room with slopes going upwards to the ceiling.
Returning to the Higher Realm:
Getting to the top is quite simple: bounce back and forth between the slopes
(simply by keeping Jump pressed) and grab the climbable pole when you
reach the top. Turn Lara around so that you see the doorway behind her and
backflip to land safely on the ground. Enter the next room and climb up
behind the window with the light rays breaking through. Step onto the
platform ahead, Lara is transported up to the Higher Realm and the end of
the journey.
