Getting Started Playing Tomb Raider Custom Levels with the TR Level Manager

By Selene

I've seen many people struggle with the Level Manager, so I thought I'd make a walkthrough on how to convert a level with this splendid tool. Custom Levels have never been easier to convert.

1) Make sure you have Tomb Raider Level Editor installed on your PC.

If you don't own the Level Editor cd that followed with Tomb Raider Chronicles, you can download the Editor from the Editor Tools page.

2) Once everything is up and running and you want to start playing, first of all find a site that hosts Custom Levels. Lara's Levelbase is one of these site. Simply click the downloading link of the level you want, in the next pop-up box click on Save, choose the folder you want to save the level in and click on Ok/Save.

3) Now we're ready to convert the levels into playable games.

Step I)

Open the TR Level Manager

Step II)

Click on Levels at the menu bar on top of the level manager and choose Add Level.

Step III)

In the window that pops up, click on the Add File button which is marked with a red circle in the screenshot below:

Step IV)

Choose the Zip Folder of the level you want to play that you just downloaded, just like shown in this screenshot and then click on the marked Open button:

Step V)

Now you have two choices: If you find that on the Level Manager there is a box saying 'Compile TOM Files And Create TR4 Files', click on that button to start the conversion process. The button is marked by a red square on the screenshot below:

The conversion process will now start automatically and a white screen with lots of typing on it will appear on your screen. Just sit back, wait and let it finish off by itself.

However, if the 'Compile TOM Files.....' does not appear on the screen, simply click on the Done button at the bottom left side of the Level Manager. If there are any audio files that needs to be converted this will happen when you click the Done button y%28e%28%29%29s2.gif If it doesn't, don't worry about it, it just means that there are no audio files to convert and this will NOT affect the gameplay in any way.

Step VI)

Alrighty then, now you should be taken back to the Level Manager main screen. Simply click on Play like shown below:

Happy Raiding everyone.
