Story

Lara gets a phone call off her good friend Dr Zawi Hawass asking her to investigate a small opening in the back of a cave that has opened after a small earthquake. In the cave Dr Hawass had discovered some small artifacts relating to the god Sobek and wants to know if there is anything more to find. Sobek, Lara learns, was an Egyptian deity with the head of a crocodile.

Lara immediately flies over to Egypt to investigate the cave with Dr Hawass. While in the back of the cave Lara hears Dr Hawass cry out and before she can turn around she is violently pushed into the crevice.

Her task now is to get out of the cavern below in one piece.

Sobek's Sanctuary

This is an intriguing first time level which is staggering in scope and epic in scale. It must have taken me half an hour just to explore the huge cavern with it's temple that was obviously devoted to Sobek!

Exploration is the big theme here, but there is still plenty to do once you've found your way into the chambers tucked around the huge cavern walls. From dodging skellies to deep swims to rope swings high above the underground lake, there is hardly a dull moment as you piece together the level and unravel its mysteries. I've never swam up a crocodile's butt before. Was a bit miffed there was nothing in there except some crocs old Sobek was giving birth too, but there you go eh.

This is a fascinating level which will live with you long after you've finished playing it. With a bit more work on lighting and gameplay, this could have been something very special indeed.
