UUB2 Walkthrough

Walkthrough by Selene

Storyline:

Team Anubis has assembled at Castle Orr and is working in support of Demon Smalls as he attempts to summon the Ghost Train that will take you to Lower Hell. Your mission is to assist Demon Smalls by activating the Castle Orr power grid. Locate the 2 Power Rooms and generate the only sort of power Small's beacons can utilise.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The level folder contains several useful documents and images. First of all comes the readme file: this contains essential information about the level, potential bugs and so on and should always be read prior to starting the game. Secondly there’s an image showing you the members of Team Anubis: this is useful so you’ll know not to go around firing your guns at anything that moves. Thirdly you are provided with four very helpful maps. The Castle is a quite confusing place, but these maps should ensure that you’ll always stay on track.

Pickups: 5x Scrolls, uzis, uzi clips, flares, Castle Key, Castle Stone, Skull Pass, Manna from Hexham, Jar of Angry Bees, Castle Gem + 8 Secrets (Manna from Heaven x 7 + uzi clips and a Manna from Hexham)

Enemies: Spiked balls, Skull/bees

At the start of the level Lara is facing four maps. These are the ones provided as jpg files in the level folder and will surely come in handy along the way. The guards standing over by the wall to the left are members of Team Anubis and if you’re nice to them they might help you later on.

There’s only one way to go here so turn around and head through the passage in the E wall. On the other side you’ll run into a junction. Off to the right we have a deep lava pit and another team member standing guard. Go towards him and enter the first passage right. At the end of the winding hallway you’ll come to the office of the Anger Management Expert: Dr. D. Psychobabble. Walk over to the doctor and turn right. On the pedestal in the alcove you’ll find a Scroll that can be used for summoning Demon Psychobabble, but we won’t be using it until way later. Leave his office and return to the lava pit.

At the far E side there’s nothing but a doorway currently blocked by a portcullis. Head back towards the passage you came through and continue slightly past it to a broader passage on the left-hand side. Ignore that for now, instead go a bit further up and head through the doorway to the right. This is the Lounge and in here you’ll find some demons playing a game of poker. Better let them chill while they can, we’ll most certainly find some use for them later on. Pick up the uzis and four Scrolls from the nearby pedestals: these are for summoning The Shout, Laser-beam Dave and finally two that will summon the assistance of Jim Rummage. As you pick up the last scroll the portcullis you saw earlier raises. Leave the Lounge and this time go through the wide passage next to the narrow one where you came out at the start of the level.

You’ll reach two bronze ledges separated by a lava pit. Jump across it to load another section of the level. On the other side follow the passage to the Garage (which you can see through the glass windows to the right). It doesn’t matter whether you go left past the shelves or through the narrow passage on the right, you’ll end up in the same room either way. Two demons are hard at work with a vehicle and on the sign near the abandoned vehicle it says:

“The Hornet.

Designed by Demon Smalls.

Built by: The Demon Mechanic Brothers.

Fuelled by: Angry Bees.

Road tested by: Lara Croft…..

……pending the capture of said bees”

Oh ok, so we’re going bee-hunting? Let’s hope she’s not allergic. Scour the room for two sets of uzi clips and some flares, then go back outside and return across the lava pit to the previous area.

Go back to the lava pit at the far S side again and this time head left and through the doorway where the portcullis rose before. On the other side you’ll come to face the Main Atrium. There’s an opening high up on the wall to the right, too high for Lara to reach from here. Around to the left there’s another closed portcullis and if you follow the N/E passage you’ll come to a lava pool which can not be crossed at this point. In other words continue around the right-hand structure. Now there are two routes you can go and you’ll have to face both of them sooner or later. What I’ve listed below is just my preferred way, but you can do it the other way around if you like.

Speaking of which….:

I’d recommend you to choose your path wisely though. I have chosen to start with the route that, in my humble opinion, contains the toughest challenges (among them what I consider to be the hardest task in the entire level). However, the other route provides you with a lot more medipacks. When I reached the hardest challenge (again, this is my point of view only and may not be representative of what other people think) I had a full health bar and Lara carried 1 Manna from Heaven (large medipacks) and 5 Manna from Hexham (small medipacks) in the inventory. Before starting this task I had used no medipacks at all and at the end of it this number had increased to 4 (so at the end of it I only had 1 large and 1 small medipack left)! In other words: if you feel uncomfortable facing a task of this kind with such a small number of available health items you should probably choose what I have called Route # 2 first.

ROUTE # 1:

The second passage in the E wall leads to a wide gap with a Gravity Trimmer. Align Lara with the green line spanning across the gap and do a leap of faith (in this case a running jump) to land on the other side. Go up the stairs and a new section of the level loads.

Continue up the stairs to the top. At the far end there’s a portcullis blocking your way and you’re obviously in need of a key. A row of vases line up the right-hand side (unfortunately there is no way you can shatter any of them yourself) and to the left you will spot an empty pedestal behind bars. Pull up into the high crawlspace on the wall just past the bars and push the button at the end. When you crawl back out you’ll find that Lara has free access to the alcove with the pedestal. Right now we require the invaluable assistance of Jim Rummage, so place one of his scrolls on the pedestal to summon him.

Jim Rummage: There must be something down here. Got it!

Return to the previous room and Jim Rummage looks very pleased to have found the Castle Key inside one of the vases. Pick it up and use it in the nearby keyhole to gain entrance to the Castle itself. Pick up the uzi clips near the burning candle at the far end before starting the next task. As you may imagine it consists in finding a way to raise the portcullis so that you can move on. Next to the portcullis there is a gemstone receptacle. If you turn towards the opposite wall you’ll find a Xian warrior (just a statue luckily). One of his spears is pointing out towards the room and the tip is decorated with…..exactly: a gemstone. What you need to do is to move the warrior statue so that the gemstone at the tip of the spear fits perfectly into the hole in the receptacle. Once this is done the portcullis will rise, leaving you free to explore the next area.

Ahead you’ll find another closed portcullis and open doorways left and right. In the left room you’ll find two Xian warrior statues; the spears on the right one are decorated with red bands, the left one with green bands. To the right is an empty room that looks just like the one with the statues (apart from the fact that it’s empty of course). These two rooms are reflections of each other. First of all examine the floor of the right room. Near the E wall there should be some green lines on the floor and some red ones at the opposite side near the stairs. Once you’ve found these enter the room opposite and move the two statues onto the floor tiles that correspond to the tiles with the coloured lines in the other room. A bit confusing perhaps, but have a look at this screenshot if you’re uncertain of the correct locations:

You will know that you’ve done the correct thing when you find that the next portcullis is no longer blocking your path. Do remember to pick the hard-to-spot uzi clips on the ledge in the statue room before leaving. Enter a room with another Xian warrior; this one too holds a gemstone at the tip of the spear. Retrieve the uzi clips from the ledge at the back of the room and prepare for the next task. It’s not as straight-forward this time around. Look towards the entrance to this room and up towards the ceiling on the left side. There’s a hole in the ceiling and this plays an essential part in the upcoming puzzle. You will soon enough find that the Xian warrior is turned the wrong way, so that the gemstone doesn’t fit properly into the receptacle. What to do? The solution is quite simple: you have to move the warrior statue underneath the hole in the ceiling. As soon as it’s in the correct position you HAVE TO jump out of the way quickly to avoid being crushed by the falling boulder. The statue is smashed into pieces so pick up the Castle Stone from the floor and place it in its rightful spot.

Lara enters a room with a glass floor, enabling you to see what goes on in the room below. There’s a lever straight ahead, but pulling it at this point would be a very bad idea. It will raise the portcullis down below and release a spiked ball (remember those creatures from The Lizard King?). Once the spiked ball hits the elevated red tile at the far end of the room Lara catches fire and there’s nothing she can do to stop it. So before pulling that lever turn right and pick up the uzi clips by the wall past the first column. Continue down along the wall and between the final two columns you’ll find a button. Pushing it summons two of Anubis’ guards in the room below. Now it’s time to let that spiked ball have it, so pull the lever and watch with joy as the guards gun it down in no time.

The portcullis ahead is now open so head through and go up the stairs. There’s a similar red tile to the left and apparently Lara has noticed that too. Pick up the uzi clips to the right, save the game and head down along the left wall. Two spiked balls will come rushing in from ahead and a third one will come up the stairs behind you. I prefer to use the uzis here- not even sure if it’s possible to kill them in time before they reach the red tile by using pistols only and you should know by now what will happen if they do get to where they’re going before you stop them.

When that trial is over head down the hall and start left down the stairs, keeping an eye on the left-hand wall in order to spot an alcove. Pull up there and retrieve Secret # 1: a Manna from Hexham (these function as small medipacks). Continue down the stairs until you reach a larger room with a lava pool at the bottom. There is a portcullis, currently closed, up to the left. Go up towards it and turn right, walk to the edge and look down to spot a slope in the lava pool. There’s a ladder on the wall below you, but you can’t use this in order to reach the slope (or the opening in the wall underneath the ladder, for that matter). Stand at the edge, hop backwards once and turn around to face away from the lava pool. Backflip and from here Lara should land on the slope in the lava pool below. Slide a bit and jump forwards while tapping Action lightly. If all goes well she should land in the passage underneath the ladder.

Push the button at the end to reveal a partially submerged ledge running across the pool from the bottom of the stairs to the other side. Do a running jump onto the slope and the moment Lara lands backflip and roll, then immediately push Action to make her grab the ladder. Climb up to the top, go straight ahead and down the stairs left. You pretty much have to dash across the walkway because the lava flowing across it will cause Lara to lose health quickly.

Head up the stairs and push the button up on the floor overlooking the lava pool. This lowers a rope straight ahead: run and jump to grab it and turn left to face the ladder going up the wall towards the ceiling. Swing towards the ladder, leap off the rope and grab hold. Climb up to the top and pull the lever to raise the portcullis in the room below. There’s no other way down than to drop down on the other side and this will unfortunately cost Lara quite a lot of health. Go past the portcullis and follow the long hallway towards the next task.

Here you’ll find a pedestal behind bars (talk about deja vú), two urns and a lowered portcullis. According to the sign on the wall the Skull is obviously feeling awkward and I can assure you that this is not a good thing. Turn around to face the two urns and pull the left one away from the wall so that you can pick up the Skull Pass it revealed. The right urn contains Manna from Hexham. The portcullis behind you rises so save the game, take a deep breath and enter to meet the Skull.

If this Skull is feeling awkward I wouldn’t for my life want to encounter it when it’s throwing a tantrum! Actually, that’s exactly what it’s doing right now: a tantrum consisting of flames and swarms of angry bees. The fire attacks are lethal and must be avoided at all costs, period. The bees will “only” munch up Lara’s health at the speed of light so you can’t stay in this room for too long. Now there are four buttons scattered about the room. You have to push each and every one of these. It seems easy, but with the aggressive Skull all over your back it’s not quite so. You will most likely have to run and jump all over the place and wait for the right moment to push the buttons, keeping in mind that the Skull strategically will set off the fire attacks once she’s standing still (such as while pushing a button). Once all four buttons have been pushed you’ll see a camera shot of the bars in the other room lowering.

Dash out of the room and left to find the pedestal alcove open. Place the scroll there to summon Dr. Psychobabble and he will have a nice little chat with the traumatized Skull. After this little conversation you can save the game and since the Skull is now “cooperative” you can re-enter the room and pick up the Jar of Angry Bees left behind for you (notice how its gaze still follows Lara around). As you exit the room you will find that there’s now an available exit off to your right. Head down the stairs to load the next part of the level.

Push the button on the wall to lower a rope above the lava pool behind Lara. Now do a running jump to reach the rope, but do not swing across to the other side just yet. Instead turn around to face the side you came from and look up to spot a hidden alcove near to the ceiling. In order to reach it a high rope swing is required (you have to get Lara so high up that she can actually leap off the rope and grab the edge of the alcove). This might take a few tries, but it’s more than worth it since the alcove contains Secret # 2: Manna from Heaven. Drop down to the ground and use the rope again to cross the lava pool to the opposite side. Follow the passage back to the Main Atrium.

ROUTE 2:

Turn left and continue to the far S wall. Here you’ll find that you’re faced with two choices: left (E) and right (W).

Head right first and at the end of the passage you’ll arrive down by the train tracks where Demon Smalls is active at work, trying to summon the Ghost Train. Do NOT step onto the tracks, Lara will be fried instantly. Instead follow the tracks around to the right until you can pick up the uzi clips. Return past Demon Smalls to the Main Atrium and this time go straight across through the doorway E.

Go right and you’ll come to face a tunnel with railroad tracks running through it. Remember what I said about the tracks earlier and do a running jump across to grab the edge of the stairs on the other side. Pull up and continue up the stairs to load the next part.

Cross the room and push both of the buttons to raise the portcullis. Go through and when you reach the junction head left (right is currently a dead end) to reach a huge hall with a lava pool, golden platforms and spear traps. As soon as you enter go left and face the lower golden platform. Hop backwards and save the game: tricky challenge coming right up. Each time you step onto a golden platform it will start rising and if Lara doesn’t get off the platform in time she will be impaled by the spears hanging above the golden platforms.

First of all do a running jump towards the first platform and grab the edge. Pull up, run and jump and as soon as you land on the next platform roll so that Lara is facing the entrance of the room. Wait for a little bit until she can runjump to land on the next golden platform ahead and immediately turn right to run onto the next platform. Quickly turn left and standjump forwards to grab the floor above. Turn around to face the exact opposite side of the room and standjump to the taller block, run off and in a right angle (so that Lara runs across another two blocks without stopping). Jump at the end to land on a small platform and immediately standjump onto the ledge before the lava pool to avoid having holes drilled into the skull.

Stand facing the partially submerged walkway and do a running jump onto it. Keep moving and at the end of the walkway jump to land on a slope. Immediately jump while pressing Action to grab the monkeyswing and traverse to the end where you can drop down. In the next hall you will find four boulders, five levers and at the bottom of the hall (and it’s a long way down, so do be careful) some pits with blue trigger tiles and some pits containing lava. The lever on the right-hand side of the boulders (when facing them) sets them rolling down the ramp. The remaining levers lower/raise the wooden trapdoors so you can create a path for the boulders to roll. If a boulder lands in a lava pit Lara will catch fire, so the goal is naturally for her to ensure that all the boulders roll straight down into the pits with the blue tiles. Facing the boulder ramp you have to lower trapdoor 1 and 4. This is done by pulling the rightmost and leftmost lever ONLY. That done you can proceed to pull the lever next to the boulders to trigger them.

A cutscene shows the boulders landing safely in the correct spots below and a tunnel with a lava pool flooding through it, a partially submerged walkway and a chain expanding from the floor to the ceiling. From the lever hop backwards twice while pressing Action and as Lara drops off the back of the pillar she’ll grab a long ladder. Climb all the way down to the bottom where you’ll find the lava tunnel you saw earlier.

First of all let’s go find a secret. Turn around to face the wall opposite of the ladder. To the right you’ll find a small ramp that you can use to reach the large block with the columns. Climb up there and look for an invisible platform N, do a running jump + grab to reach this one. Pull up and make your way across a second invisible platform N/E and from there to the nearby column block. Go around it to the left and do a running jump to the third column block and from here standjump into the alcove in the N wall. Now you can finally pick up Secret # 3: Manna from Heaven + uzi clips.

Drop down to the ground and locate the lava tunnel W. Rush across the walkway and jump forwards to grab the chain. Climb up to the top and backflip onto the floor behind. Proceed up the stairs and down the long hallway, two spiked balls will rush in to greet you with their usual “yoo-hoos”. Kill them and continue to another large lava hall. There are some slopes scattered about in the lava, stand facing the leftmost one and runjump onto it. From there on you only need to time the jumps past the remaining slopes (in some cases you might have to slide a bit as well to make the next jump) until Lara lands safely on the other side.

Head through the doorway and you’ll reach a new lava hall looking similar to the previous one. This time, however, you can’t use the slopes to reach the opposite side. If you try this you’ll find that Lara ends up back at the side where she started out. Instead go left to the slope running along the pool and turn around, look up to spot a ladder. Backflip onto the sloped side, jump forwards and press Action to grab the ladder. Now you can climb left until it’s safe to drop down on the other side of the lava pool.

Follow through the doorway and down the long wooden ramp. In the next hallway another two spiked balls attack. Kill them and continue along the only available path until Lara reaches the next large hall (notice the pedestal alcove behind bars on the way there). Two spiked balls come running down the hall and it will soon become evident enough that the ground ahead is all but safe. Face the opposite end of the hall and turn right, walk along to find a doorway leading into a small room. Notice the little dome over by the wall and proceed to push the button nearby. Return back outside and now you’ll find that the bars blocking the alcove are gone. Enter there and place the correct scroll onto the pedestal, then watch the hilarious little cutscene that follows. It’s now safe to cross the floor so do that and head left at the junction. Follow the long passage to load up a new part of the adventure.

Go up the stairs and proceed until you reach an enormous hall with a lava pool covering major parts of it. Various slopes are scattered about in the lava, some suspended upon poles, others double-sided. Climb over the pillar right and turn left to face the double-sided slopes. You have to stand as close to the base of the first one as you can, then do a standing jump over it to land on the side going away from Lara. You now have to jump across the remaining slopes, angling Lara left and right in mid-air to land on them. Finally she’ll reach a ledge where you can pick up Manna from Hexham and push a button to lower a rope over the lava near the entrance to the room.

Now make your way back there by the same method you used to reach this ledge. Climb the pillar and do a running jump + grab to reach the rope. Start swinging and jump to land on the first slope ahead, immediately jump while pressing Action to grab the back of the second slope. Shimmy to the left side of the slope, pull up and jump across another five slopes. You have to steer Lara hard to the left when jumping to the sixth slope, which is around the bend to her left. Jump again and this time grab the back of the next slope. Shimmy right as far as you can, pull up and perform two consecutive jumps, right angle on the first one and left angle on the second. The moment she lands on the flat platforms hop backwards and grab the edge, allowing the two boulders that come crashing down to roll off into the lava below.

Before moving on turn right and do a running jump up to the boulder ramp. Follow it to the back, turn left and pull up onto the floor above where you can retrieve Secret # 4: Manna from Heaven. Return to the lava room and jump over to the platforms again. Face the slope going W and the ledge with the pounding pistons. The next move is rather difficult so I’d recommend you to save the game here. Off to the right of the piston ledge you’ll find another row of slopes- you need to reach these and you’ll have to go past the pistons in order to do so. First of all do a standing jump to land on the left side of the slope. Immediately jump again to land on the piston ledge and run forwards, ignoring the pistons pounding down on Lara. About halfway down veer right and jump at the edge.

The point here is to land on the slope going down towards the wall. You have to land on the right side of it so that you can easily jump to the second slope off to the right. From there you have to jump with a left angle to land on the slope ahead and left and finally grab the edge on the way down (provided that Lara lands facing upwards and she really should). Remember that you can save the game while Lara is hanging from an edge; just remember to keep pressing Action while reloading the game.

Position Lara at the centre of the slope, pull up and backflip/roll with a sharp left angle to land on the left-hand side of the block behind. You’ll begin to hear a rumble so immediately standjump with another sharp left angle to the next block before she is flattened by the piston above the block. As soon as you land run forwards and jump while pressing Action to grab the edge of the next block (and thus avoiding another piston). There’s a piston above the block you’re hanging from as well, but it won’t be triggered until you pull up. Do so, run and jump at the end while pressing Action to land on the ledge ahead. Now you have to run about three steps forwards to avoid being flattened by the first piston, but don’t go so far ahead that she runs into the flame emitter. Once you’re in a safe position between the first piston and flame emitter you can save the game. Phew!!!

The trial isn’t over yet though, not by far. First you have to reach the other end of the ledge alive and to do so there’s a row of flame emitters and pistons (both horizontal and vertical ones) to get past. There are also flame emitters in the wall below to the right, so shimmying past is out of the question. In reality this isn’t really all that hard of a task, it’s all about timing and control. Make sure that you stick to the wall and that you save the game every time you hit a safe spot (i.e. every time Lara does not either catch fire or lose health). At the end run past the final piston and jump to land in the alcove ahead.

Go on following the hallway until you reach a steep ramp. Look up to notice the rows of boulders hanging above the ramp, surely not a good sign. Walk to the end and position Lara so that she is aligned with the second boulder (counting from the left when she’s facing the ramp). Start running a few steps downwards and veer into the left track. The leftmost boulder will drop before the others so if you’re lucky it will already have passed by and you can stay next to the wall in safety and wait for the rest of the boulders to roll down to the ground. The bottom row is triggered even before you reach them.

Enter the small room to the left and Lara will make a comment about the teleporters being deactivated. Leave the room and head down to the bottom of the ramp. Down there you’ll find a boulder blocking an alcove with a button so that you can’t reach it. Turn left and do a running jump across the lava pool to grab the ladder and climb up to the top. Place the next scroll here to summon Laser-beam Dave. Watch time fly by as he reduces the boulder blocking your path into dust. Now climb back down until Lara is positioned about three steps from the bottom, backflip/roll and grab the floor opposite.

Pull up and cautiously enter the passage where the boulder was stuck. There’s a lava pit in the floor so jump over it and push the button to activate the teleporters in the previous room. Return back out and head up the ramp, then enter the Teleporter Chamber to the right.

The spikeball statue can be moved and the goal is to lift this one and the one on the higher floor all the way up to the top level. This is done by using the levers to lower and raise the circular lifts. Push the first spikeball statue onto the lift at the centre of the room. Pull the lever nearby to raise it up to the floor above and now jump into the swirling teleporter near the S/W corner to transport Lara up to the floor with the two spikeball statues. Push the spikeball statue off the lift and onto the next one, then pull the lever to move the statue further up. You can't get to the higher floor from here so drop down through the hole in the ground N to land in the water below.

Jump into the teleporter N/E and you'll end up on the floor with the spikeball statue you moved recently. Push/pull it onto the next lift, dive down into the water at the bottom and climb out on the ground floor. This time use the teleporter S/E to be transported to the top floor. Pull the statue off the lift and push it up against the receptacle in the W wall.

Drop down through the hole to land in the water below and climb out. Use the S/W teleporter to reach the floor with the second statue. Push the lever here to lower the lift going up to the next level, move the statue onto that lift and push the lever back to raise the lift. Head back down to the ground floor and up through the N/E teleporter. Push the lever to lower the lift, move the statue on top of it and push the lever again. Back down to the ground we go and up through the final teleporter S/E. Push the statue off the lift, go around to the right and push it once more so that the spikes connect with the receptacle in the wall. The portcullis rises and we see a cutscene of Demon Smalls back down by the train tracks.

Demon Smalls: Damn! I obviously don't have enough power....

Continue out past the portcullis and follow the hallway back to the Main Atrium. As soon as you come out there head right through the doorway and you'll soon be back at the lava pit near the start of the level. Move on down the hallway N, at the end go left and jump across the lava pool. A new part of the level loads, when you're back in game continue straight to the Garage. Well, we've captured the angry bees so it's time to take that Hornet for a ride! Insert the jar of bees into the engine and we're ready to go!

Drive out the doorway right and left up a long ramp. Continue driving along the hallway and sooner or later you'll come to a large room with walkways spanning across a pool. Along the way there are three electrical cones that you'll need to drive through in order to put out some fires that are currently preventing you from accessing the levers on the floor above. The greatest challenge is to avoid driving off into the pool, but you probably already knew that. Once all the cones have been shattered dismount the Hornet and return to the entrance. Head up either of the gilded stairs and use the climbable pole to reach the glass floor above. Now that all three levers are safe you can pull them to raise the portcullis below. Return back down, but before proceeding dive into the water and look for a narrow crack in the S wall. Swim through there and follow the long passage until Lara reaches an alcove on the right-hand side, nip in there and grab Secret # 5: Manna from Heaven before gunning it for the exit back in the pool.

Climb out onto the walkway and head back to the Hornet. Drive through the doorway and along the hallway to the next area. Back up onto the large red tile to the right and the red tile on the other side will rise into a block. Dismount the car and move on into the next area. There's a gemstone laying on the blue carpet, but do NOT walk out towards it- Lara will just fall straight through and into the lava pit below. Turn left and go push the button between the pillars, this will raise a door in the N wall. Before heading back to the vehicle stand with Lara's back to the carpet pit and hop back, grabbing the edge. Shimmy around the first corner left and position her so that she's hanging from the second tile. Drop down and she should land on a block in the lava pool. Do a running jump + grab to the alcove opposite and follow the stairs all the way to the top. Climb up onto the floor above and pick up Secret # 6: Manna from Heaven. There's another short ladder ahead, climb down until Lara is hanging from the lowest rung and drop to the floor of the hall where you left the vehicle (losing a little bit of health in the process). Now return to the car and get ready for a quite tricky timed run/ride:

As soon as Lara gets into the Hornet a block at the back of the slope ahead will rise. Drive forwards and make a hairpin turn left to reach a walkway going around a pool. Drive as fast as you can around the walkway and at the end gun it up the ramp to land on the timed block that rose earlier. Immediately drive off and down the ramp- Lara should now have brought the vehicle safely across to the floor near the carpet pit (if the timed block lowers before she reaches it you have to go back to the trigger tile and give it another go).

Drive through the doorway right and in the next room ride across the first slope, angled sharply left to hit the next one and finally jump over to the last slope to crash through the window ahead. Continue driving up the ramps to the top and here you'll find a hole in the ground with a turquoise gem. Drive through the gem and Lara will drop down to the hall below (losing quite some health in the process). Get off the vehicle, turn around and pick up the real Castle Gem from the floor. Use it in the receptacle S to raise the portcullis so that you can proceed to the next room. You can leave the vehicle here as you won't be needing it any further or bring it with you as far as you can. As you turn the corner look up at the right wall to spot a crawlspace. Pull up there and bring with you Secret # 7: Manna from Hexham. Drop down to the hallway and continue to a ledge by a lava pool. Even if you have brought the Hornet with you this far you'll still have to leave it behind at this point.

Do a long running jump over the lava pool and continue to a large hall. A glass window ahead is blocking your path, so pull up into the doorway high on the wall left and crawl through the narrow crack. In the high alcove on the other side you'll find a scroll pedestal. Place the correct scroll there to summon The Shout. By the looks of it he lives up to his name perfectly well. At least now the glass window is no longer in your way so go back to the hall and climb through to the hallway on the other side. Head up the stairs and at the end you'll come to a hall with a fountain gushing lava into a pool and four paintings on the walls.

Push the button in the S/E corner to open a door with a green triangle behind it. Now go to the painting of the Green Gargoyle and open the trapdoor in the floor underneath the painting (stand on the side with the black handle facing the trapdoor and press Action to open it). Drop down into the hallway below and here you'll find the room with the green triangle that you saw in the earlier camera shot. As soon as you enter the room through the green triangle a boulder will start rolling down towards a lava pit. You have to stop the boulder before it reaches the lava to save Lara and to do this simply turn left, draw guns and shoot the green triangle there. The boulder stops and you can climb up the ramps past the boulder and push the button on top to open another door, this time with a red square in the room beyond. Return down to the ground and go back to the hall with the paintings.

This time open the trapdoor underneath the painting of the Red Demon and go on through the red square to set another boulder rolling. This time you have to run up the first ramp left, turn left and shoot the red square before the boulder reaches the bottom of the ramps and the lava pit down there. Make your way up to the top of the ramps, push the button to uncover another room with a turquoise diamond and return to the hall with the paintings.

Open the trapdoor in the floor under the Lizard King painting and drop down into the hallway. Passing through the turquoise diamond will naturally set another boulder rolling down towards a lava pit, this time around you have to dash off to the right past the ramp and immediately push the button here to open a door in the opposite wall. Sideflip right immediately, roll and draw guns to shoot the turquoise diamond opposite in order to stop the boulder. Climb up the ramps and push the button to open the final out of the four doors, then return down to the ground floor and back to the room with the paintings.

The final trapdoor is located underneath the painting of Madam Orr. Drop down into the hallway below and now you'll have to pass through the yellow star, but this upcoming challenge will be the hardest one out of the four. When you pass through the yellow star the first thing you'll find out is that the boulder remains motionless on top of the ramp. Start climbing upwards and on the second ramp set Lara up so that she can sideflip right onto the top ramp. SAVE the game before attempting to hit the top ramp though: the boulder starts rolling the moment you land on it. Three symbols appear on the floor below (triangle, square and diamond of course). You have to make your way back down, shoot all those three symbols to open a door behind them. Inside that alcove you'll find the yellow star, immediately shoot it to stop the boulder on its deadly roll towards the lava pit. Climb up the ramps and push the button to activate the teleporter at the centre of the lava pool.

Make your way back there and jump over to the teleporter beam to be taken up to Power Room 2.

Lara: I'm in!

Up here you will find two red and black blocks with the four symbols (triangle, square, diamond and star) embedded into the sides. There are two metal posts that can be moved nearby, with one symbol stretching out from each arm. Finally there's a transparent block in the room, this one too has the four symbols carved into each side. Your task to raise enough power is to connect these five pieces. First of all move the S/W metal post over to the E block so that the blue diamond on the arm connects with the blue diamond-receptacle in the block. The S/E post has to be connected to the N block by the red square. Finally move the transparent block between the yellow star N/E and the green triangle N/W. When this is done electrical currents will surge through the air and we'll see that enough power has been raised in order for Demon Smalls to finally summon the Ghost Train.

Before continuing down the hallway turn around and re-enter the Power Room. Behind the far pillar you'll now find Secret # 8: Manna from Heaven. Climb back up into the alcove and drop down on the other side to find Lara back in the Main Atrium. Follow the building around S and through the right passage to meet up with Demon Smalls by the Ghost Train. All aboard and we're ready to journey onwards to the Plain of Jars.

Demon Smalls: What further horrors shall I find within this terrible place. Wherein a time before these catastrophic events I would have willingly accepted pallid imitations of such horrors. I now have come so far my sensibilities lie benumbed by all I see. I do not embrace this horror but rather stand immobile beneath its self-indulgent gaze. Confusion reigns and I fear the god within the machine is no longer there.

Lara: Whatever.
